We recently connected with Grace Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Grace thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I like to think of myself as a late bloomer. I have always had a song in my heart and music in my soul but it wasn’t until my 30’s that I started writing and recording music. I never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to play music around the Midwest and to share my voice with the world through streaming services. I believe that it is never too late to realize childhood dreams.
Grace, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
A vibrant, energetic country band made up of passionate musicians. Featuring soaring vocals and killer guitar solos The Grace Scott Band is guaranteed to bring great energy and a fun time to fairs, festivals, private parties and corporate events. Featuring country music hits from today and the 90’s and classic rock songs such as Led Zeppelin, Neil Young and The Rolling Stones. We began playing together in February 2017 and quickly found we were on to something special. We have been blessed with numerous opportunities including opening for Little Texas, Riley Green, Deanna Carter and Phil Vassar, and, LOCASH
Grace’s first vocal performance came at the age of two at a church in her home state of South Carolina. Growing up In Franklin, IN provided many opportunities for growing her musical talents. Grace’s Papa Spencer from Eastern North Carolina first introduced her to classic country music and she never looked back. Grace is so grateful that she connected with the guys in the band and has enjoyed every minute of playing with the boys. Some of her favorite music moments include performing with country artist Tracy Byrd, opening up for Little Texas and making it through several rounds of auditions of American Idol alongside Jennifer Hudson! Musical influences include: Patsy Cline, Miranda Lambert, The Chicks and Trisha Yearwood. Grace and her husband Wes have been married for 18 years and have two beautiful kids: Keaton and Quinn. When she isn’t making music Grace is a high school English teacher at Logansport High School and enjoys leading worship at Revolution Community Church.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love bringing people joy through music. Looking out over a crowd and seeing people gathered together, dancing, singing, laughing, and smiling is the pinnacle for me. We lost so many moments like this during the Covid Pandemic and I never want to take these moments for granted again. Music is a unifier that brings all different types of people with various beliefs, and backgrounds together.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Sometimes I feel that something that others struggle to understand is that music is a passion and necessity. There are always going to be people who don’t understand the creative’s journey and need to create and breathe to life the music in their souls. It is easy for people to sit back and judge the process and not understand that music sets my soul on fire, it brings light and life to my life. My father raised me with the saying to whom much has been given much is expected. I have a responsibility to share my music with everyone I can.
