We were lucky to catch up with Grace Owa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Grace , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with my natural deodorant when I developed rashes on my body and under my armpits any time I used commercial deodorant and body lotion. With these rashes, l had to seek the help of a dermatologist and she informed me to stay away from perfume and harsh chemicals in beauty products.
Grace , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a registered nurse, married woman and the mother of three beautiful children. As l said earlier I got into making my natural deodorant when l developed rashes while using commercial deodorant and other body care products. The problem l have solved with my natural deodorant is giving my customers the option of using chemical free deodorant without the fear of chemicals. What l am proud of is that l am able to create a product that will help millions of people. I’ve been a nurse for more than 16 years, a mother of three wonderful children and l also love creating deodorant that works excellent without any chemicals. MissNile natural deodorant was founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I am excited for it to reach people beyond this location.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In regards to growing my clientele, l follow up with phone calls, text messages and as well as telling my customers to tell me what they like and don’t like about my product. In addition I make an effort to attend trade shows and stay involved in events going around in the Tulsa community. I believe it is important to establish a relationship with my customers, so going to these events and staying in contact with my clientele ensures I can stay connected and maintain a strong relationship with MissNile customers.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being personable has helped my brand go a long way. I am a nurse and have a lot of experience working with patients and understanding their health needs. My motivation for creating MissNile beauty products stems from my own experiences, along with my history as a nurse. Because of this I believe I have established strong trust with my customers which has ultimately helped me to build a strong reputation.
