We caught up with the brilliant and insightful GRACE NAPOLEON a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
GRACE, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to be a “Makeup Artist” was when I started working full time at Victoria Secret as a cashier.
I’ve met so many gorgeous faces, all the girls I worked with was so beautiful and always have on a flawless full face of makeup. That was when I knew I needed to learn how to do my own makeup.
So I started learning, I started doing research, watching YouTube videos even ask one of the girls I worked with (Imani) to take me to the store where she brought all of her makeup supplies so I can learn for myself.
She introduced me to The Original Beauty Blender” some foundations and concealers, a makeup palette, lipglosses
I start by watching YouTube, I start showing up to work with my make up done, I started getting compliments everytime I posted on Facebook and Instagram.
One day an influencer reach out to me at the time she was into fashion , blogs and such she asked me to do her makeup I was very skeptical but I did it. I started getting small gigs for a few weddings.
The feedbacks, the love and the passion I had for it, the way I felt after I beat each faces even though I wasn’t where I am at now at the time I was satisfied. I knew that was my calling, I knew this was it. I learned and learned, I cried everytime I messed up cause I wanted my work to be perfect like the people I looked up to..
But I didn’t give up I picked my brushes right up and kept on going.
SO I BECAME GRACE!
GRACE, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Grace a makeup artist located in the heart of West Palm Beach, I specialize in soft glam makeup for any and every occasions such as weddings, birthday glams, TV and stage makeup.
I worked with models for magazine shoot, video shoot, movies and such.
I work behind the scene and make sure every faces I touch looks flawless whether for a Photoshoot, Video Shoot or commercials.
I always make sure my clients show up and showed out, I want everyone who sits in my chair to be confident everytime they stepped into a room. Makeup is so underrated but it’s a luxury. People only get their makeup done for special occasions so make it count. That’s what I do I set my clients apart.
I am so proud of the person I am becoming, I work so hard to become her and I am still working to be the best that I can be. I’m very humble and always willing to learn more and more to better my craft.
I want my clients/ future clients to know everytime they book me they get a full package specially on set working with celebrities before they show up in the camera I make sure everything looks great even their hair. My brides as well I always show up and make sure I deliver each time. I want my clients to get what they paid for. If they aren’t happy with my service I will do the best I can to fix the problem and I don’t let my clients walk out unhappy knowing I did a poor job or bad mouth someone who paid for my service.
What sets me apart from others
Is that I am GRACE and nothing can beat that. I am GRACEFULLY blessed and also Gracefully blessed each faces I touched.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The way I built my audience on social media ( which I am still working on) It’s a working progress. But my advice for those who just starting to built a social media presence is to just be you. There’s only one you, stop competing with others enjoy the ride.
#1 rule to building a ride or die audience is to be authentic meaning Do Not I repeat do not buy followers and likes just to compete with the next person. People can tell and that shows that you are not genuine. Trust the process, be consistent. Post, post, post don’t just post but post what you think your audience will like, post even when you’re not getting any likes cause people are looking. Potential clients don’t like your stuff all the time they booked. Just be consistent, honest and transparent with your followers/fans and you’ll do great.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to create, create a beautiful moment for someone special day. Doing makeup is a hard task you must pay attention to every details. After I am done with a client a simple smile is rewarding enough, the confidence I can spot immediately is what makes me happ and thinking to myself “ I did that”. Lol
