We were lucky to catch up with Grace Mia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Throughout my career, learning the art of modeling and improving my craft has been quite the journey. There are so many aspects of fashion, modeling and beauty that can make for amazing creations. From being comfortable and confident in front of the camera to learning unique poses to practicing my runway walk, I have learned a great amount of techniques that have ultimately help further my career. Investing time and effort in getting to learn new fashion ideas are what can help speed up the learning process as applying what you learn can quickly be put into action. Networking is a skill that is the most essential especially in this industry. Knowing people and socializing have been great ways to expand my knowledge of modeling which has guided my skill set and pushed me to strive for more opportunities.
Grace, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My modeling career began in 2019 doing photo shoots ever so often with local photographers in my city in order to grow my confidence and skills. Over the past 4 years, I have participated in 4 runway shows, a number of photo shoots and music videos. Learning from other models, mentors and photographers has helped me acquire the skills that I have, which has facilitated with setting the tone for the trajectory of my career. I am most proud of how much I have grown as a model. As my passion for the industry has increased, it has also become a facet of my purpose. Every opportunity I am presented with optimizes my path for success. Doing runway modeling has encouraged my admiration for designers due to having the privilege of wearing there beautiful pieces. Working as a print model has helped me develop a sense of fierceness and working the camera to capture the most radiating shots. My creativity stems from wanting to model different looks that are unique to myself which also contributes to expanding my horizons in the industry.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to come up with a single idea and turning it into an incredible project. Seeing my thoughts and ideas come to life brings an ample amount of joy. It can be difficult starting or attempting to bring concepts to life but once started, the visual outcome causes so much gratitude and drives me to create even more.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Since being on this journey as a model and creative, there have been many lows and many highs. Although at times it can be discouraging, having your passion aligned with your drive and motivation will lead to success. Encompassing the right mindset is important to be able to remain focused on what it is you want, how you’re gonna get it and maintain it on your journey. You may hear 100 no’s before you get that one yes, and that one yes oftentimes is all you need to get you where you’re going. Keeping the positivity and faith on your journey will always get you to your destination.
