We were lucky to catch up with Govind Tatiyal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Govind, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
So here I am , an average guy like any other , sharing with you how with the zeal and love for my passion, is building a new empire for which I consider myself as a King ( and hence the nickname) . It has been definitely a roller coaster which I’m still riding with multiple ups and downs to build my own Kingdom , where reside a bunch of hardworking, goal oriented , disciplined people who were earlier just like me- lost, lack of self confidence , incarcerated or simply worried about how they were.
I’m on a mission to help numerous people not just with fitness and general health but also with emotional and mental well being. And eventually learning from them too and lastly keep the respect and give more meaning to my name – Govind.
Thank you for having me onboard and giving me a chance to tell people What I am, , Its an honor.
Govind, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Govind Tatiyal, an Indian origin guy who currently reside in United States. My love for fitness has been since childhood but due to few misconceptions, my own self doubts and mistakes and moreover due to the negative aura around I couldn’t really adhere and follow properly what I wanted to pursue. But due to my Sigma personality and the stubborn attitude for what I love, I’m here currently even though I was failing innumerable times knowing that someday I’ll get what I dream of with my open eyes, and that’s what made me get into this industry which furthermore helps me improve my craft. Discipline and sacrifices are one of the main pillars to get here according to me.
And coming to my services or products or whatever it is, I’m not kind of a coach who just provide some diet or training plan for few bucks, I basically want to change/alter/improve people’s mindset who believe in me towards whatever they do. I do this because I believe that when one controls the mind and emotions, everything falls in place, no matter what it is about. This sets me apart from others.
I’m extremely proud of changing people’s lives either emotionally, mentally or physically. The best part which gives me immense happiness is when I help drug addicts, alcohol and smoke addicts to get rid off these evils, as a byproduct of enrolling under me. Because I believe its not just about one person , its also about the others and loved ones around, the vibes and aura we pass onto others and mostly on the next generation . Having said that, physical fitness is just a part of what I provide.
I’ve also not agreed to quite a few endorsement deals too with both well-known and not so well-known brands. Because I cannot endorse something which is not good for people eventually , like unnecessary supplements, for instance considering testosterone “boosters” or fat “burners” , promoting some fitness “shortcuts” which will just burn people’s time and effort.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
See, I can say that hardwork should be done and there are a million motivational quotes about the same , anyone can do it. But the thing which most people don’t realize or realize after spending a good amount of time in a particular field is that its not just hardwork or smartwork, you might have listened to those quotes right- ” dont work hard, work smart” but do you think people really do that or adhere to it ? I don’t think so , its just one of the so called “feel good” quotes, so back to the point people should know its just not hardwork, its the consistency of the hardwork -days in days out, weeks in weeks out, years in years out that pays out and completely changes the way we think and whatever we do, it has continuum response but when you reach there and look behind the difference is huge. Your thought process , attitude, vibe, mindset everything changes to extreme extreme extreme heights .
There is a true story I would like to take example of , back in my country-how a common man in a village cuts down a whole mountain with just mere hammer and chisel , as a revenge because he couldn’t take his wife to hospital which was located behind the mountain, due to lack of time and distance . He cuts it down totally in about 22 years I suppose every single day so that others might not go through what he experienced. There also a movie dedicated to this story. What we need to learn here is, it may look like we are using just small tools in our lives and people may call us mad and make fun, but down the road it will have a greater impact which will surely change what people think , so trust your instincts and your work.
So answering to your question – apart from just training and knowledge which are gained from hardwork again , there so much more which goes in order to succeed – ignoring the naysayers, writing down your own rules and abiding them no matter what, keeping your promises made to yourself first (forget about others, if you cannot do it to yourself) and much more. Be a Lone Wolf , smile and take action , you’ll be a unbreakable.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Its simple. the quality of my training and how I handle my champs ( I address my clients as champs ), for some it may be because of I have knowledge in this field due to my certifications and their trust in me.
People are mostly into judging anyone or anything by the looks and I don’t blame them , so heh yeah ! mostly everyone thinks I’m a pretty “strict” kind of trainer , but my champs know how cool I’m with them and how flexible I’m . Because this runs in my belief that the easier the fitness journey , more likely anyone can adhere to it . Strictness or I can say managing anyone can get meticulous when they are competing and have really really serious goals. This includes athletes as well since I’m a sports nutritionist too.
I would say get to know the person who you are training , its not like you are training just him/her but instead you are training together, you are a team, no one is boss , just that one knows the plan and works mentally the other one works physically. This is just a matter of perception. You can find a number of coaches and even websites which can provide you free training and meal plans, but my question is what different or how different are you ?
Believing in my champs and people when they cannot count on themselves and when they are deep inside the well of self doubts and negativity is what I believe helps me keep my reputation in the market. Once my champs opt out training from me after they have reached their desired goals , we still hangout , talk, chat and facetime. That’s the connection I hold with my people and that’s what matters I guess, the aura, the vibe the energy we have and create and pass onto others.
