We recently connected with Gonzalo Costa and have shared our conversation below.
Gonzalo, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
Creating content can be fun or a hobby, but when you want to take it as your job or dedicate yourself to it, it is a risky decision. When I started on social media, I had a job on the side since I didn’t make money with social media, I only collaborated with brands. There came a time when I didn’t have enough time for both things and I had the opportunity of a clothing brand in New York that always offered me to travel and create content for them. They decided to offer me a budget and a contract to work for them and outside the image of that brand. It was a risky thing because at that time I had to choose between continuing to work 10 or 12 hours a day for a fixed salary or try it and see what the future held for me and dedicate myself 100% to this and that’s what happened. Today I have been on social media for many years with millions of followers on all my platforms and generating quite a bit of money. That story will always be with me since it was the first time they offered me money for my work on social media.
Gonzalo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Could you tell us a little about yourself, how you got into your industry/business/discipline/art, etc.?
•I started in the world of social media when I was about 18 years old, when social media was nothing like what it is now. In the beginning, there were very few people who were dedicated to men’s fashion and content creation around 2017/2018. I started creating content and showing my style and way of dressing and I started receiving many messages and comments with questions from people who liked my way of dressing and who took me as a reference or example when it came to dressing or buying their clothes. I started receiving a lot of support from people who asked me daily for advice and tips to improve their image. Little by little I expanded my style and knowledge in the world of fashion, personal care and social media and today I have been chosen as the best influencer of the year 4 times since 2018.
What kind of products/services/creative work do you offer?
• I am the image of international clothing, personal care, skincare, hair and perfume brands. In addition to this, I offer image consulting and social media growth services for all people who want to improve their image, learn how to dress, be more confident and attractive, or who want to get started in the world of social media and learn how to work with brands and be successful.
What problems do you solve for your clients and/or what do you think sets you apart from others?
• Something that has always caught my attention and that my fans tell me again and something that I am proud of is that they identify with or choose me for being a simple and direct person when it comes to teaching or showing how to improve their image and habits. My job has never been to be the best or to attract attention or attract people. I have always dedicated myself to sharing all my knowledge from my point of view so that other people who may have the same problems or need help can identify with me. That is something that I feel makes me stand out from the rest.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want your potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/etc.?
• I am a person who started from the bottom and never had help from anyone, the world of social media can be very cruel and that is why few people succeed over the years. If there is one thing that makes me proud, it is having had the ability, perseverance and maturity to keep going despite all the obstacles I have had throughout my life.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to dedicate myself to what I like and let my imagination and creativity when it comes to creating content or showing what I like speak for themselves. Social media is not an easy world since you have to constantly innovate and reinvent yourself and that is a very big challenge.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The key is very easy but at the same time very difficult, being constant over time is what will make the difference, if you are constant and show perseverance, good content, being creative and providing valuable content, sooner or later success will come to you.
