We recently connected with Goldie NotNice and have shared our conversation below.
Goldie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to attend a couple summer seminars Savannah College of Art and Design used to offered for various courses(I’m not sure if they still do that). I took two courses at the Atlanta campus and two courses at the Savannah campus. I’d first take Fashion Design and Drawing and Painting, then Painting again with Architectural Design. It was within and from that experience, I knew I wanted to be an artist long term/professionally. It was the first time I felt seen by people who shared passions with, and it would be what inspired me to pursue my art degree. I didn’t get a chance to attend SCAD (for personal reasons, but I would go on to obtain my BFA from Sam Houston State University!

Goldie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Peace and Blessings readers!
My name is Amber White, but to the art world I’m known as Goldie NotNice. Owner of The Glitch Gallery, a private owned tattoo studio in Southwest Atlanta. I’ve been an artist from an early age, from ballet, to choir, and ultimately visual arts, I like to think I didn’t choose art, art chose me. I am a multi passionate creative so I draw, paint, I’m a Tattoo Artist of 14 years, I design clothes and honestly anything that involves self expression, is my lane.
When it comes to my relationship with my clients, I approach my work with intention first. I like to start with consultations, to further understand where the client is going with the idea. Once I get a good understanding of the concept, then I find a way to incorporate myself, as the storyteller. I like to understand concepts down to the detail, that way every element that is birthed from the collaboration is a direct connection to the client. I incorporate spirituality into my practice, and the universe in return, aligns me with the opportunities and clients who desire that intention from their services.
What I’m proud of continues to mature, as I do! However today, I am most proud of finding my way back to myself. In an energetic, spiritual, and quite literal way. I’m uncovering parts of myself, my highest self has been patiently guiding me towards. Messages are becoming more clear, the alignment is more divine because I’ve defined it! I am most proud of me, for getting me here.
What I want those who align with me now and in the future to know about me, is that I’m a creative for the universe. I am a part of a cosmic assignment to raise the vibration of the collective. Whatever I produce, be it drawings, paintings, tattoos, garments, a theory, content, etc, will always reflect my truest intentions. I am who I am, and will only continue towards becoming the best version of myself.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love this question and I’m so glad I get an opportunity to speak on it! YES-there is a mission currently driving my creative journey, and that the conversion of my school bus into a mobile art studio/home. I just completed the demolition and now I’m in the insulation and electrical phase. So far, it’s all been DIY, but I acknowledge now is time to get some professional assistance involved. The Creative Nomadic life has been a life long goal of mine and this year I get to make it real! What I hope happens from this project is introduction to creatives finding alternative ways of living. The money we spend on 2-4 months rent could go towards buying a vessel that could be your future home. Imagine living on the road as an artist, finding new landscapes, cultures, museums, concerts, festivals, beaches, all that potential exploration at your fingertips. It’s an achievable goal, and I’m showing us it’s just a matter of putting action to a plan.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’m in a literary season so I’d love to share some of the books that I’ve defined as breadcrumbs to help me reach the loaf. “BARRACOON” by Zora Neale Hurston, that lead me to “They Came before Columbus” by Ivan Van Sertima, “Erasing History” by Jason Stanley and various texts on the ATR diaspora, like “Spirits Come From Water” by Ehime Ora, or “The Hoodoo Bible” by Mama Marie, to name a couple. Various texts on Hinduism and Buddhism ideology like “Think like a Monk” by Jay Shetty ,“ The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” by Deepak Chopra or the “Nag Hammadi” by Marvin Meyer. Even books for self, like “The Artist Way” by Julia Cameron or “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I could go on, but reading one book led to more questions, which required finding other books that possibly held the answers. Meanwhile all of this is uncovering and revealing aspects of myself, I didn’t know existed, in real time.
