We recently connected with Goddess Cyn and have shared our conversation below.
Goddess , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Every brand has a beginning, and mine started from within. From a young age, I struggled with hormonal imbalances and identity challenges, often trying to fit into spaces that didn’t truly reflect who I was. That changed when I discovered the power of creating my own space – one rooted in nature, self-expression, and healing. I found purpose in using the natural resources around me to improve my well-being, and from that moment on, I never looked back.
This journey sparked my passion for individuality, holistic health, and creating custom, meaningful pieces. My curiosity drove me to seek alternatives beyond conventional solutions, even when those answers came from medical professionals. I’ve never believed in a one-size-fits-all approach to wellness. Instead, I see immense value in integrating holistic practices with traditional medicine to support the whole person.
Holistic wellness transformed my life, and today, I channel that transformation into everything I create. The jewelry I make is more than just beautiful adornment – it’s wearable healing art. Copper, a key material in my work, is a natural antimicrobial and antibacterial metal that supports the body in multiple ways. Pairing it with handmade skincare and wellness products felt like a natural extension of my mission.
Life’s everyday challenges became the fuel behind my business which is why giving up has never been an option. what it stands for is too important. Our communities deserve safe, nurturing spaces where we can learn, grow, and thrive.
The name Mgodi means “mine” in Swahili. I chose it to reflect the ideology that beauty can be whatever you want it to be. It also highlights the deeply personal and custom nature of my work—from beauty to wellness. Through creativity, I learned to make my own path, express myself fully, and offer that same freedom to others. Whether it’s jewelry, skincare, or wellness support, every piece I offer is made with purpose and rooted in the belief that healing and beauty should always go hand in hand.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I touched on some of this earlier, but I didn’t fully introduce myself. I’m Goddess Cyn, a proud Philadelphia native who’s always stood out from the crowd. It’s no surprise that I now specialize in custom work, offering people fresh perspectives—something I’ve done for myself my whole life. Integrity and creativity are at the core of everything I do. I love the challenge of finding innovative ways to create while staying true to my brand and its healing essence.
I address a range of needs, from skincare to self-confidence. But the skill I’m most proud of is mindfulness. I truly believe that if you can change your mind, you can change your life—and I help people do that every day. Whether it’s through affirmations, handwritten notes included with every order, or meaningful content that draws people in, my work is deeply rooted in community and intention.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Growing my social media presence has been a natural, organic journey—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When people meet me, there’s no facade. What they see online is who I truly am, and that authenticity is the foundation of my brand. In my opinion, that’s the secret: when people genuinely like you, they’re more likely to connect with what you create. Nothing happened overnight, but with each new day, I’ve gained more opportunities to refine and grow.
One of the best compliments I’ve received was, “I really love your personality and the products you offer.” That meant everything to me—it confirmed that I’m building exactly what I envisioned: a brand rooted in who I am, not just what I sell. I genuinely enjoy what I do, including engaging with my social media community. Responding to questions, celebrating excitement, and being present online doesn’t just boost engagement—it makes the experience more personal and rewarding for everyone involved.
Have you ever had to pivot?
There was a pivotal moment in my journey as a business owner when I realized my brand no longer aligned with who I was becoming. I originally launched my business as a lash retailer —something I was genuinely passionate about at the time. But as my personal lifestyle evolved toward a more holistic and intentional way of living, that shift made me take a hard look at what I was offering. The lash business no longer felt like a true reflection of me, and I found it difficult to stand behind a brand that didn’t match my values.
So, I made the bold decision to pivot. I transitioned from beauty products to holistic items and custom wearable art. These were now creations that felt more aligned with my purpose and spirit. It wasn’t easy to start over, but the shift allowed me to build something meaningful, rooted in healing, creativity, and authenticity. It was a reminder that businesses grow just like people do, and the more aligned you are with your truth, the more powerful your impact becomes.
