We were lucky to catch up with Glory Hope recently and have shared our conversation below.
Glory, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
As a portrait and figure painter, I am devoted to diving in depth with my models and clients to learn aspects of their personal stories to incorporate into their painting that bring a sense of inspiration and empowerment to each individual. These portraits weave together elements that they feel represent their strength, culture and spirituality. I pursue my skills to grow more as a safe, deeply mindful, supportive practitioner for my clients. One of the ways that I model standing in personal, authentic truth, is by turning inward and cultivating a deep self awareness that is based on a radical and complete self acceptance and love.
I began a self portrait in the spring of 2024 as a way to begin to bring light to some of my own stories of resilience, strength and to illuminate my devotion to story telling through painting as a modality for healing.
This work required a vulnerability and bravery that has led me into broader pathways of compassion for the people I serve through my practice as an intuitive artist and painter. I hold each story with wide eyed wonder and reverence for the uniqueness of each soul that trusts me to paint them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an artist, educator, community liaison and social justice advocate, using art for healing, empowerment and communication
My name is Glory Hope, I was born and raised in the beautiful North West among a family of thinkers, dreamers and artists. I am a mother, painter, dancer, singer, poet and intuitive.
With a love for human anatomy, social justice and the natural world I create authentic, original artwork that is both thought provoking and beautiful. I believe in the core values of personal justice in the form of radical self acceptance as foundational to my work. Using my artistic practice to uplift and honor the beauty in all of humanity.
I am a self taught artist, my painting technique is acrylic paint on wood or panel with mineral compounds.
I paint portraits of individuals, couples and even our fury companions! I do live event painting for festivals, weddings and music events. I also paint murals and teach the intuitive art process to all ages.
My passion is using my skills to help people tell their stories. I use my intuitive process to create a finished piece that resonates with people. Creating a timeless work of art that incorporates elements that they feel are important to them and that elevates their consciousness. Capturing a sacred moment visualized through my inner sight.
Through my guided meditation with my “muses” we visualize their higher self and add meaningful mythology, animals, elements and colors that speak uniquely of their personal story of strength. Illuminating the Cosmos incarnate in the landscape of each face, line and curve. These intuitive portraits are used as a source of guidance for my clients.
This is my souls work and I am astounded every time I get the honor of glimpsing into the magic that is YOU!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I often hear people describe themselves as ‘not’ creative which is, I believe setting others who can be described as more creative out of reach and on a pedestal. As a child, I struggled with undiagnosed adhd and found that my mind could simply not be organized in the ways those around me could. I turned to drawing as a source of relief from the pressures of traditional academics and there I could arrange rules that made sense to me.
When I teach my intuitive process to adults and even to children, I find that most of what I am guiding people in is a step by step process of unlearning the structures and rules that we have been subject to that have limited our sense of joy in the creative process. When we objectively look at the word “creative”, we can say that every single human that has ever existed and who ever will exist, is a creative. We are all creating something. There is no hierarchy to the wealth of possibility within each of us. Education, resources and giftings that are accessed only by the few and privileged are not limitations to those who chose to see themselves as the powerful creators that we each are.
I chose to invest in myself through diving in to the process of trusting in me and creating for myself first. I can compare and constantly be striving to better my craft, but i have to continually reinforce my self as center. Otherwise there is truly no end to comparing ourselves to each other, which limits our own unique vibrancy.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
In the Irish tradition there is a word, “Don” it means, a person’s life purpose or destiny. As I have reflected back over my journey as a mother and artist, I can see how, regardless of what work I was doing, it has always been infused with the sacred, souls desire to see those in my care truly and deeply love themselves.
As a young mother of three sons, I found myself so devoted to their care and wellbeing that my own sense of self was set aside. Now that my sons are young adults, I am able to focus on my own healing journey through studying and understanding my personal ancestry, studying and learning the language of my ancestors, Gaelic and diving into the mysticism and legends that shaped who I am now, My Don, is to heal myself and heal my relationship to my intuition. To remember my voice through serving as a guiding light to others on their journey. Honoring the sacred in all.
