We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gloriana Briggs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gloriana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I grew up a reptile enthusiast. My relationship with reptiles began as a fan of the popular YouTube channel “Snake Discovery”. I learned a lot about various species, their health and wellbeing, as well as care and husbandry. That passion grew until I was gifted my first 2 Crested Geckos for my 12th birthday. As I cared for my pets and learned more about them, I began to explore their natural environments and bioactive vivariums. What started as a hobby, has grown into to a lifestyle, and that momentum established a business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I focus primarily on high quality genetics, well cared for pets and bioactive enclosures for them to thrive in. I began building enclosures and realized that with simple instructions, this hobby can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. I have begun marketing DIY bioactive enclosure kits to organize the construction process and encourage new builders. Its my hope that we bring the love of these beautiful animals and their natural environments to new people. I want customers to feel that with our kit and their creativity … anyone is capable of building a quality bioactive enclosure.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I attend a lot of reptiles shows. I go to every booth, display and vendor in the building. I introduce myself and chat reptiles with everyone. I collect business cards, trade follows and tag people in my pictures. My social media is growing slowly, but organically.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think personal relationships and building rapport with other vendors has been a big part of my growth. Being personable and consistent also helps. Trading goods and services with other vendors is a great way to keep my costs down and help to maintain personal relationships.
