Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gloria Moeller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gloria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My photographic journey began many years ago in Iowa in my parents’ home-based portrait studio. That is where I learned the importance of light and composition and passion for photography. Over the years I migrated away from the studio and out into nature. I spend hours every week looking for images that capture the emotions of life in the natural world. I especially like to photograph wildlife, ocean seascapes, mountain landscapes, and wildflowers.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I love taking the photographs and then I love spending time with editing software to tease out the best features of each image. My customers tell me that my images transport them into nature where they can find serenity in this chaotic world of today. I am fortunate that I live in the San Diego, CA area, where I have unlimited access to the ocean and year-around mild weather to take photographs and to sell my photographs at frequent live outdoor art show events where I offer matted paper prints of my photographs, as well as enlargements on canvas wraps and/or HD Metal. I also sell my enlargements on my website at www.lifeimagesbygloria.com. You can find me selling my work live at Balboa Park in San Diego on the 2nd and 4th weekends and in Coronado on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. The addresses for these events are on my calendar on my website.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My resolve to continue my photography business was put to the greatest test I have ever faced when several months ago, my sweet loving husband of many, many years, stumbled and fell and suffered a fatal brain injury during his morning run. Suddenly my world was torn apart. In an instant our future together dissolved. An artist friend rushed to my side to support me. And then, after a time, she told me that I needed to be sure to continue with my photography journey if even just for my own mental health. I could not fathom how I could do that without him. But eventually, I was able to pick my camera back up and wander again in nature searching for solace, craving a distraction from the pain of loss. Some of my recent photographs have brought me some glimmers of joy that I feared I had lost forever. My passion for photography has helped to anchor me to this life and the desire to live it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The feel that overall the most rewarding aspect of being a nature photographer is when I see the looks on my customers’ faces and hear their comments as they view my photographs. It is amazing to feel that I have in some way contributed serenity to their lives that they can now view and enjoy over time in their homes or office.
