Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gloria Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gloria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My husband and I have worked in the mortgage industry for 15+ years. During COVID, we decided to open a new business and embark in entrepreneurship. We saw that many indoor playgrounds were closing and we didn’t have many indoor playgrounds to take our kids (6, 4 years old) and we figured other parents were looking for places to take their kids as well. We also saw a need to open a venue to celebrate birthdays and milestones since many families were not able to have big celebrations during COVID. So we started planning and designing an indoor kids cafe.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was always in meetings to talk about the next meeting working in Corporate in management level positions. I always missed working with customers and figured what better customer than kids and parents! When designing and planning our business, I wrote on my business plan that we have 2 customers: parents and kids. We want the kids to have fun and the parents to know their kids are having fun in a safe and welcoming environment while the parents can enjoy coffee, food or a mimosa! My favorite compliment is when parents say, “You guys really thought of everything!”. I planned for 3 years and really tried to think of everything my kids like and what my husband and I wanted to see in an indoor playground. We love that our guests notice the small details and give us the compliments as it drives us to do better!
How’d you meet your business partner?
My husband is my business partner! He really helped me bring my vision to life and helps me daily with small tasks, For 6 months during our build out stage, him and I cleaned the entire place every day, installed the base molding ourselves, painted, etc. We have been together for 22 years and I know I can count on him for everything! I want to thank him for trusting my vision and helping me get to where I am.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It took us almost 1 year from signing our lease to our grand opening day. We worked on 10+ permits, many inspections and construction. I had to learn to be patient but also learned to come up with ways to make everything work. I would think of solutions to problems I never had to solve and I loved the thrill of getting my vision go from architectural drawings to life!
