We were lucky to catch up with Glenys Yevi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Glenys, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
Getting your first client is always the hardest task for any business. This can be even more challenging regarding modeling: it is a highly competitive market where your portfolio is key to getting you your next booking. Because of this building trust within the creative community and a tight-knit network was key.
After a couple of months in business, I came across a posting for collaborative work organized by one of my favorite MUAs to date. It was my first time working with her and I approached her politely asking them to give me a chance, with no work to show. It was a bold move, but I banked on my honesty, coachability, and willingness to learn which won her over. I knew I couldn’t let her down, because someone taking a chance on you is something to never take for granted. I brought my A-game, doing my due diligence and doing everything I needed to turn this job into a client relationship. By the end of the shoot, she saw the potential in me and invited me to work with her again, this time for a brand campaign! This campaign was my 2nd time in front of the camera ever, and a turning point in my modeling career. There is no feeling quite like the first earning particularly doing campaign work. I had an amazing time working with the whole team, which led to becoming a signed and professional model.

Glenys, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a model and content creator based in Houston, TX. My work revolves around creating inspiring, authentic, and emotion-inducing content. I have always had a passion for the Arts and have explored various art forms, such as painting, acting, dancing, and more. I started my modeling journey because I wanted to understand art from another perspective. Modeling and content creation allowed me to become a canvas and soak in the creative pool in all dimensions.
I specialize in fashion modeling and adjacent work, with an emphasis on beauty, commercial, editorial, and runway work. My end goal is to create a strong emotional connection with the viewer, achieving the goal set by my clients. With 2 years of experience, I have taken part in local, national, and international projects. Some of my highlight projects include NYFW, Austin Fashion Week, and Documentary work on Amazon Prime and TV. I stand out to clients by my quick learning ability and positive attitude which allow me to excel quickly at any task no matter the difficulty. This is reflected in my online community, where I am blessed to have a community that shares these same values and shows them through their interaction with my content.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The story I always like to tell is of my journey with a favorite client of mine, KT Beauty Boom. I had the chance to work with them on the 4th and biggest edition to date of their annual hair show Elemental, celebrating the elements of nature. This was my most challenging project, as it included a detailed miming choreography and poetry combined with the runway. Taking on the project, I was initially not aware of the complexity of the project until we began practicing the choreography. The more rehearsals went on, the more cast members changed. Several people forfeited because of how intense the process was. While I initially struggled, I refused to give up and persisted despite the challenges. I pushed through physical and mental conditioning to excel and shine as one of the few models to remain in a cast of dancers. In the end, I got to open the show and immortalize the moment in a documentary available now on streaming and TV channels.
Another unexpected challenge of this project was make-up! Last-minute cancellations are not rare when it comes to fashion shows and unfortunately, that day was one of these days. After we were down one makeup artist and had 6 girls waiting to get their makeup done, the producer was scrambling for solutions. I stepped up as a makeup artist, helping the other makeup artists so we could start the show one time.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
To me, the most rewarding aspect is truly the journey. Creativity is a gift that keeps on giving and that saying has been true for me. I have grown in my craft but also as a human being overall. I have also created strong relationships with my creative peers which is a blessing. As I grow I am inspired to continue expanding my skills, dabbling into new forms of art, and infuse this creativity in everything I do. I have faith in the journey and I am genuinely excited for every next step!
