Hi GlenNeta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’ve been in the Entertainment Industry for 24 years. I recently launched my new company, House of G, Inc. It is an innovative storytelling company focused on the development of original Entertainment, Media, Film and Television Projects. So many content creators have great ideas for film or television shows and don’t know where to begin. We offer consulting in the areas of Branding, Development and Packaging. Our team of Development Producers, Storytellers and Writers can help you prepare to pitch to investors, major networks, media outlets, producers and streaming services. As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an Actress, Consultant, Producer, Writer and Entrepreneur. I started acting and modeling professionally when I was 18 years old. Over the past 24 years, I’ve worked on numerous projects in Entertainment, Media, Film and Television. I’m a passionate storyteller dedicated to helping others bring their projects to life while also producing my own projects. I’m the Founder of the Georgia Media Academy, the Media Kids Foundation, Inc. and now, House of G, Inc., a storytelling company focused on helping creators take their projects from concept to screen. I’ve been involved in more than 100 film and television projects/media campaigns and have worked with major networks such as ABC, Apple TV, BET, CMT, GSN, HBO, NBC, Netflix, TV One, WarnerBros. and many others. I’m also a ‘Momager’ of three young actors who are all doing extremely well in their acting careers.
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Relations and Marketing with a Minor in Journalism and Mass Communications from Ashford University. I studied Film & Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia and completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing, Film and Television from Full Sail University. I consider myself a student of the industry but I’m excited to share my expertise with the world.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
If you are not resilient now, you will be if you stay in business long enough. The pandemic made me stronger and taught me to recover quickly. So much happened that was not in the plan. But, I had to keep going and keep building. Things will always change. Sometimes you have to just go with the flow and see where it takes you. During the pandemic, I finished my Masters degree, transitioned a current business to virtual and started a new one. If you fail, fail fast. Get it out of the way and recover quickly. It’s not what you go through, it’s how you recover.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Knowing when and how to pivot in your business and career is key. I opened the Georgia Media Academy in January 2020. We had a beautiful 2,400 square foot training studio and were off to a great start. Then, COVID hit us hard in March and forced us to shut down for over a year. It was devastating. In order to stay in business, we had to pivot quickly to a virtual model. This was a blessing in disguise because we opened our training programs up to not only Georgia students, but those outside the state as well. We are still training online across all states today and even nationwide.
