We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Glenn Murray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Glenn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
There is a quote from the late, great Pele that goes: “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all love for what you are doing.” I think that sums it up. There’s no magic bullet to success it takes equal abouts of sweat, focus, sacrifice and think skin.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
While traveling to Napa in 2012 for a wine country tour I stumbled upon what we thought was a great idea. “How does one provide the same wine tour experience in a big city setting? Or even a smaller metropolitan or a suburb? Where there is great food wine and spirits we will seek it out and package it in an experience that’s Second to None. That’s the focus of “The Crawl.” Imagine an upscale wine and food crawl for foodies and wine lovers, as well as those wanting to learn more about food and wine. Sometimes off the beaten path, sometimes popular locations or sometimes a curated space where we control the entire experience.
We search the neighborhoods for the hidden gems and scout out the foods that the city is known for and much more. We wanted to “disrupt” the idea of a crawl from being a drunken excursion down the street to a more appealing casual, Saturday afternoon gourmet food and wine tour. Since then, and post COVID we’ve expanded with Event Ambassadors across the country. We’ve hosted people celebrating birthdays, romantic weekends, or just “out of towners” looking for a fun excursion.
We’re most proud to have featured a number of new and emerging wine brands, chefs and restaurants in each city.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth has always been the best way to grow. But we’ve taken full advantage of several social media platforms and we continue to add new customers every day. We take the approach that Wine Crawl is new to anyone who’s never heard of it . So each day the goal is to introduce ourselves.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I learned that I could only do so much as a sole proprietor. I knew I needed to scale and over the past year I’ve slowly shed many of the things I was doing. From coordinating to managing the the events and next I’ll be hiring a social media manager. That one has been the hardest to let go of because once upon a time I knew every guest that attended the crawls. That is no longer the case and I’m ok with that. I feel confident about the team we’re assembling that they will provide the kind of experience I want us to be known for.
