We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Glend Martinez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Glend, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Glend & Associates is a business consult firm. The name come from one of my favorite shows, Scandal. My firm ranges from helping people apply for unemployment to helping them get approved for loans. My goal has always been to help people so I decided to make a business out of it. It’s been extremely difficult but I’ve managed to progress. This year has been very difficult for me because I’ve had alot of personal issues but I still never let it get in the way. Today marks my two month anniversary and I can honestly say I’m extremely grateful and happy. I’ve even hired two employees and our clients are more than happy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Glend Martinez. I am a gay 27 year old living in Miami, FL. I’ve faced many struggles in my life so I’ve decided to make them into positives. I’ve opened a publishing company and published my first book ‘Chronicles of a Gay Boy:X’ which is a book based on my life. I’ve also opened a business consult firm. I’ve had a rough upraising but I can honestly say I am pretty successful and I want to continue to help and inspire people. My goal is to show people that there is not straight path to success, it’s not about how many times you fall, it’s about how many times you get up!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Honestly, I started with no capital. I had gotten fired from my job and just decided to take a leap of faith. In fact, I learned how to establish personal and business credit so that I can use a waterfall method to fund my business. It’s actually quite interesting. As I continue to grow, I continue to make money & build credit. It’s genius.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I have always loved helping people. I have always sat down and analyzed and tried to find solutions for people. I wouldn’t say it’s my side hustle but just a basic feature. I successfully turned a feature into a full time business. I’m extremely proud of myself.
