We were lucky to catch up with Glass Press recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Glass thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
We both were blessed to grow up in musical families and were encouraged to get into it. As for speeding up the process, it really does take a level of discipline to “enjoy the suck” as you learn and get frustrated during the process and be willing to be bad at something until you get to a level of proficiency that makes it a fun experience. That eventually creates momentum to grow and enjoy the creative process. For both of us I think the typical things like relationships, work, and all the drama of life can easily distract from making any type of art; “music is what happens when life doesn’t get in the way” as they say. Overall, being patient with the process is very important, it’s easy to get distracted or get bored with things that take time to develop. Patience, passion, and a sense of humor truly do help with seeing things through and having something you’re proud to have worked on.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When we came up with the concept for the band we wanted to incorporate some of the things we respect and genuinely enjoy listening to and seeing live. Odd-time signatures were something we both wanted to explore in greater depth than either of us had been able to in previous bands. Alot of syncopation and interplay between the drums and guitar create the base for any lyrical themes we feel called to write about. Lyrically we tend to dive into modern issues and comment on the absurdity we all observe on a daily basis in the news-cycle. Having only 2 instruments really made us have to think about pushing our abilities and creativity to levels that truly challenge us as musicians but always prioritizing catchy riffs and heavy grooves. During live performances we try to push tempos and put out as much energy as we possibly can. We love our version of controlled chaos that we’ve crafted so far.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Our real deep-down philosophy is that we were born of stardust tracing back through time from the big.bang and due to an unfathomable and unbelievable sequence of events we were put together on this earth for the explicit purpose of “smoking bowls and fillings holes”. It’s just Rock n Roll. Don’t overthink it.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
They were designed for idiots.
