We recently connected with Giuseppe LoTempio and have shared our conversation below.
Giuseppe, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
At Stepchild, we are motivated by curating the film community around us and want to be a resource for future & current Camera Operators, 1st AC’s and Cinematographers in San Diego county.
We’ve taken the traditional setting of a true rental house experience but added a few things we wish we had when we began our own journey in film industry.
Stepchild is proud to host workshops for technical knowledge, resell film stocks onsite from Kodak and display short films/commercials from local talent in our community at our monthly warehouse premieres.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up in Oceanside and began my journey into media through documenting surfing & skating at SurfRide straight out of High School. My interest became more involved in the film industry (more specifically in the live music space) in Los Angeles which eventually put me in the position of doing more commercial content for web & CTV platforms.
For the last 4 Years I’ve been a Video Producer and executed branded campaigns for several creative & marketing agencies while also starting a rental house in my local area. What I’m most proud of is the friendships I’ve built through this film community and how each of them have shaped my life in some way.
When people see my work I hope they see & feel the motivation & emotion behind it. On a daily basis we are all bombarded by immersive content but it is my goal to capture stories through authentic storytelling.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is simply being someone who creates for the sake of others to see or feel something from a alternate point of view.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my business partner Kelly Hammond through an online rental platform called Sharegrid, were owner operators list their gear as a rental.
