We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Giuliano Solis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Giuliano, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Being an Artist can be challenging at times. It’s 100% a grind and relies on the work you put into the craft. I Bartend/Serve on the side not only to help me financially but also to put towards my music career. I also audio engineer at a professional studio as well as run my own online business. I think you have to do these things to not only invest into your self and business but to also realize if you truly love what you’re doing. I’m happiest when i’m creating music. It’s apart of me and I rather struggle and grind as much as I can to make things work than to settle for a regular 9-5
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Giuliano Solis. I’m a 25 year old singer/songwriter from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I make rnb dance, reggaeton, afro inspired music! I’ve been doing music professionally for 4 years now though, I have been playing guitar since I was 6 years old. I have accumulated over a million streams on every platform combined. I also am a producer and audio engineer. I have a degree in Audio Engineering from Berklee College and work at a professional studio called “MAD Studios”, as well as run my own online mix and mastering business. Not only do I love creating my own songs but I love to help others achieve their vision wether it be in mixing, producing, song-writing or featuring on their song. I think being able to hit every element in music from the songwriting, performing, producing, and mixing/mastering sets me apart from many. It’s sort of knowing all the ingredients in a recipe to create a gourmet meal. I’m most proud of my consistency that has lead me to achieving milestones. It’s not easy growing a fanbase but I finally started discovering my sound and people are listening. What’s important to me is that my fans or anyone who listens can feel the music I create. That the emotion and feel I am feeling, they can resonate. I let out my thoughts and feelings in my music, it’s a place of vulnerability and it can be scary but knowing I’m not the only one going thru certain emotions or experiences lets me know that we are all human. I’m excited to share the new music i’ve been creating as well as the clothing brand i’m starting called “SOUL” which stands for “Spreading Out Universal Love”. This Summer will be a SOLIS SUMMER! Embark on this Journey with me as we will create some magic together!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think society can be better at giving more recognition to Hometown creatives and artists. The spotlight is a lot on the artists that are already big. There are so many talented creatives and artists out there that I know who’s work needs to be put on display. There should also be more grants and fundings to help push our craft to the next level. We as creatives want to give back to our community and show that we are proud of where we come or came from! It helps create a culture and spotlight on a city. Even just simply sharing a post of someone work on a story or with family and friends helps us a lot.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think the biggest thing non-creatives struggle to understand about my journey as a creative is the amount of time and dedication I put into my work. They don’t realize it’s starting a full time business from nothing. They only see the end results of the product I showcase. The work behind it is challenging and can be difficult especially if you’re doing it independently. I never realized how much backend stuff there was to being an artist before I became one. You have to constantly put yourself out there whether it’s on social media, networking, events, shows, etc. Not only that but burnout is big. It stops you from being able to create songs or want to make content. I understand why some famous artist go on a hiatus from couple years now. Having clarity and enjoyment in this field is important and vital to not only creating great music but to also give it your 100% all in everything else that comes with being an Artist
