We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gittyman (Nick Gittemeier) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gittyman, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
Before I started producing music I actually worked as a delivery driver for jimmy johns. I learned a lot there but the most important thing it taught me about life was the importance of discipline and hard work. I knew this wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life and I realized to get anywhere you want to be in life you are in for a lot of hard work and you are gonna have to do a lot of stuff you absolutely don’t want to do. The only things that come easy in life is problems.
Gittyman, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nick Gittemeier, known as gittyman. I started making music for fun as an artist around 2017 when I was still in highschool and started taking it seriously around 2021. In 2022, I gave beat making a try and realized how natural it came to me and how much fun I was having. I decided to stop rapping and go full time with production and really started to see things come together. I make beats/instrumentals for artists to use for their music. I make them myself and send them out online but I also prefer to meet in person and create from scratch with the artist. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in the little amount of time I’ve been producing and want people to know I’m open to work with anybody who takes their craft seriously and wants to invest in themselves.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think people should be more open to their locals trying to make a name for themselves and more willing to give people a chance. Nowadays a lot of people are so quick to write off any type of content especially when they are people they are around all the time which is unfortunate because those should be the people supporting you most.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Honestly, I really like the satisfaction of putting a project together and seeing it come full circle and come to completion. There’s nothing better than a good session making 3-4 beats and sitting down afterwards and listening to them again. Or getting in the studio with an artist and making a hit and playing it back over and over.
