We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Giselle Hunter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Giselle, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The defining moment in my career happened 7 years into my career as a massage therapist when I had a client experience a profound somatic release while I was working on her face and neck. Up until that point, I had focused primarily on deep tissue and structural work, but this moment shifted everything for me. I realized that when the body is ready, I have the ability to help facilitate deep, stored emotional and physical release.
That experience sent me down a path of exploration into somatic therapy. I immersed myself in studying the mind-body connection, learning how trauma, stress, and emotions are held within the body. But the biggest shift came when I personally experienced somatic healing. After struggling with unsuccessful talk therapy, I found that somatic work unlocked something within me that words never could.
Now, I see this transformation in my clients—many of whom don’t even realize they need it. They come in for bodywork, but the healing often goes far beyond their muscles. This work has opened a door to something much deeper, something that has changed not only my career but my entire understanding of healing. As I’ve come to learn firsthand: the body remembers what the mind forgets.
Giselle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in the massage and bodywork industry since 2012, and looking back, I can see how God has orchestrated my career every step of the way. I started at just 19, and over the years, I’ve built a practice that has taken me from North Dakota to Georgia and now to Colorado. My goal has always been to help people feel better holistically—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
I specialize in integrative bodywork, incorporating a variety of modalities to address pain, dysfunction, and the deeper layers of healing. From 2020 to 2022, I dedicated myself to mastering myofascial techniques, refining my ability to provide lasting pain relief and treat conditions like TMJD, sports injuries, and chronic pain. These tools allow me to not only address symptoms but also help clients find long-term solutions.
While kinesiology and structural bodywork have always been my passion, integrating the mind-body connection has taken my work to another level. Through somatic therapy, I help clients release stored trauma and tension that traditional bodywork alone may not reach. Many come in expecting muscle relief and leave with something much deeper—an emotional and energetic shift that allows them to move forward with greater freedom.
What truly sets me apart is that I am led by the Holy Spirit in all that I do. My faith is the foundation of my work, and I firmly believe that every transformation and breakthrough my clients experience is not by my own hands but through God working through me. I’ve seen incredible changes in my clients—relief from chronic pain, emotional release, and even a renewed sense of self.
Beyond the hands-on work, I’m passionate about empowering my clients with knowledge. Healing isn’t just about what happens on the table—it’s about the steps taken afterward. I strive to equip people with the understanding and tools they need to create lasting change, one step at a time. Because in my experience, knowledge is power, and when we listen to the body, it will always show us the way to healing.
Have you ever had to pivot?
After my divorce in 2022, I faced one of the hardest decisions of my career—I chose to leave behind the successful practice I had built and move back to my home state of Colorado. That practice had not only supported me but also my two children, and walking away from it was incredibly difficult. I knew starting over wouldn’t be easy, so I decided to take a step back and use my skills in a different setting, working for a chiropractor. I told myself this would give my body the rest it needed after years of running my own business.
But in that time away from my own practice, I had a powerful realization—I could never stop sharing my gift with the world. Bodywork and healing aren’t just my profession; they are my calling. I’m way too passionate to let this work sit on the sidelines. That season of transition reaffirmed that no matter where I am or what challenges I face, my purpose remains the same: to help people heal. So, I pivoted once again, stepping back into my own practice with renewed energy and a deeper understanding of why I do what I do.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the need to be in control. For most of my life, I believed that if I could just manage everything—my emotions, family, finances, friends, goals, children, and husband—then I would feel secure. But in reality, that constant need for control only led to extreme anxiety, fear, and a scarcity mindset. I was always bracing for the next challenge, trying to stay ahead of life instead of actually living it.
It wasn’t until I surrendered that I truly understood the power of letting go. I learned that control was just an illusion and that real security comes from trust—trust in God, trust in the process, and trust in myself. Releasing the need to dictate every outcome didn’t make my life fall apart; it made it flow more effortlessly. I stopped holding myself and others to unrealistic and unhealthy expectations, and in doing so, my world has become brighter, lighter, and so much more peaceful.
