We recently connected with Girlany Murillo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Girlany, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
With ups and downs, I have been able to complement painting with design, photography, crafts and video. It wasn’t like that from day one. What has helped me maintain my business has been the versatility of creativity. Not to focus exclusively on painting but to sell myself as a complete artist whose creativity has no limits. Use all my skills to strengthen each one of them and always have added values that distinguish me from others.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My passion for art has always been there. Since I was little, creativity was my game. However, my mindset towards creativity as a business started in 2016 when I involved painting with the modification of clothes. This with the idea of offering products that can be used and be seen more on the street than a painting, which not everyone has the capacity to spend that money on. And this also gave me a lot of inspiration to create and experiment with different techniques. Now I am sharing my creativity by painting live at weddings. I have different packages that involve all my skills in creativity, offering a completely unique final product and loaded with the essence of that special day for each couple. Personally, I love creating collages of paintings for couples since I feel that it is the best way, in addition to the colors applied, to capture the couple’s vibe. In addition, my packages include the creation of videos, which has become another of my passions. You can check out these styles on my website www.artnany.com in the Live Wedding Painting segment.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have learned that the more personalized art is, the more it communicates. From the colors to the elements, they all play the art of impacting at first sight. And I am passionate about delivering a product created together, which involves ideas, tastes, moments, feelings and the right colors. I have also learned that the versatility of creativity is infinite and the stronger those skills are, the stronger I am as an artist. Changes and experiences in the life of an artist are essential for inspiration. I am from Costa Rica, I came to this country a year ago and although it may seem like a short time, it has been a great injection for my creativity and opening up new paths and new ways of exposing myself as an artist. And I am sure that I cannot be in a better place to expose my creativity.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Personally, I would like to share my creativity in every corner of this world and this country. That has always been my goal. It is a great blessing to live doing what one loves. I would love to travel more often, creating and painting as much as I can. Presenting my way of seeing things to the world, personalizing pieces that contain a set of tastes of a person I don’t really know and being able to capture the message. I love the magic of art.
