We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Giovonni Ravenell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Giovonni, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I am so blessed and grateful to have the parents that I have. At a young age, I saw both of my parents work hard to provide for my siblings and I. My father taught me to always ask questions, pay attention to detail, and if I say I am going to do something, do it!
I’ve witnessed both of my parents working overtime to get me through my undergraduate program when I thought that I may have to sit out a semester. Everything that I have accomplish thus far in business and in personal development, after God, it’s them to give thanks.
I know it warms their heart to see me doing something that I love, and knowing that their investment did not go to waste! I still work hard to do more and be more, so that they will always know how appreciative I am of them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In brief, I run an online fitness coaching business, “GioPrimeCoaching”, where I work with individuals looking to begin their fitness journey or, those have a basis and are simply looking for professional intervention to get them to where they need to be. But, before we begin to expand upon that, I want to explain to you how I got here.
Growing up, I’ve always held a fascination with the human body and the complexity in which it operates. As a young teenager, I really grew a liking to the heart and the circulatory system and decided that I wanted to be a cardiothoracic surgeon when I grew up. In my sophomore year of high school, I was actually given the privilege of shadowing one for the day at Roper St. Francis. I will never forget. His name was Dr. Petersteim. Our interaction was even published in the “Berkeley Independent”. At the same time, playing football trying to work my way to the top by doing extra workouts. This was the advent of my love for training.
Fast-forwarding to my senior year of high school, everyone in my local community believed in me and my dreams that they were already calling me doctor at 17 years old. Attending the University of South Carolina, I was a biology major on track to pursing my dream, or what I thought would be my dream. Training and improving my physical fitness has not only raised my confidence as a young male. But, it has also made me a beacon of inspiration to the lives of those around me. I will never forget this life changing moment, when I was training back at Strom Thurmond Wellness Center on campus. As I was working out, this stranger approach and said, ” Hey man, I don’t know you. But, you simply working out beside me, make me want to push a little harder.” When I heard those words, I almost couldn’t hold back the tears while thinking to myself this gift that I have. The gift of presence and bring the best out of people.
So, after a full semester, I made the decision to switch my major to exercise science. Most of my support system believed that I was selling myself short and not living up to my true potential, at first. It wasn’t until they saw how genuine and happy I was about training and helping others reach their fitness goals, that they got on board! I graduated from USC, and chose to begin a new chapter in the United States Air Force. In the 4 years that I served, I was appointed the head Physical Training Leader for my squadron of 300+ people. This further solidified that I am doing what I am suppose to do. As a result, GioPrimeCoaching, LLC was established.
My business is unique in a way, because of the relationship and trust I build with my clients. I teach my clients how to train, and the role nutrition/supplementation plays in that. Confidence was an issue I’ve overcame when I first started, and I work with clients who not only lack the knowledge but the confidence and courage to begin. I am here for them!
When you become a part of GPC, you become part of an extended family. You have 24/7 support wherever you may be. I am here to prevent procrastination, bring motivation, and present education, so that you have all that you need to be the best you!
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
What I believe to be most helpful in succeeding in this field, is knowing that it will take time to build a sustainable/genuine business with loyal clients. Know that this is what you want to commit your life to, and strive to create a memorable experience with every client every time!
Never get complacent! Over communicate on what you can do better to create said experience. Lastly, before you go to bed, ask yourself if you’ve done everything that you could to make your business successful today, and what can you do to prepare for success tomorrow?
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped build my reputation is word of mouth from past and current clients, as well as, being consistent with bringing the highest of energy to all of my clients every time! Referrals have been a major asset to my business and plays a huge role to my high retention percentage!
