We were lucky to catch up with Giovanni Gioia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Giovanni, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Two years ago, I lost my incredible mom, Pennie, to her2+ metastatic breast cancer. I wanted to create something that would honor her, bring joy and happiness like she always gave to the world, and raise awareness and money for researching the same or similar types of cancers that she was diagnosed with. I put together a virtual music festival called Thrive so people from all over the world could tune in. I booked all the artists myself and partnered with Nightlife 360 to have world class virtual stages and 3D visuals. I setup an optional donation link with the amazing non-profit, METAvivor with the goal of raising $1,000 for metastatic breast cancer research. Within the first 40 minutes of the event, the $1,000 goal had been met. By the end of the day, there was $4,525 donated to this cause.
It was an incredibly emotional experience for me. To have created something that allowed people to smile and dance, be vulnerable and open, to have raised more than 4 times the amount of money I thought I could…it’s an incredible feeling. My mom was one of the most hopeful and positive people I’ve ever met, and I know she is so proud of how I turned my pain of losing her, into something that positively impacted the world. I don’t think any project I’ve worked on is quite as meaningful to me as Thrive.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a 21 year old songwriter, music producer and DJ living in Los Angeles, California making and releasing music under the name Sequence Six. I’ve been producing for 9 years and releasing music and DJing as Sequence Six since 2015. I also run a podcast called Existential which is uploaded on the first day of each month showcasing the best in electronic music. I always knew I needed to be in a creative industry, even when I was really young. I’ve always needed to tell a story with what I do and I feel the way I do that sets me apart from those around me. Every song I write is born from personal experiences, desires, fears, hopes and dreams. If it doesn’t mean something to me, it’s never going to get finished. Though I mostly focus on building my own brand, I help other artists bring their music to life. Whether it be though co-writing, co-producing, or mixing songs and albums for artists who don’t have the experience to do so, I enjoy creating and enhancing the parts set in front of me. I think the most important aspect of my brand is that everything means something. Whether I’m playing at a club or festival, writing a song, or helping someone else’s vision come to life, the meaning of each word, each sound, each empty space is what will make a difference to those absorbing the art I am providing.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s the moments of standing on stage, playing my music to people and seeing them dance, smile and cry. To have that energy and really truly feel it is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever felt in my life. Knowing the emotions I put into these songs translated to the people on the dance floor is a feeling almost indescribable and I am truly so grateful to know what that feels like.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I just want people to feel. Really truly feel. I want to create a space where someone cannot avoid their emotions. Facing things allows us to let go, and creating music allows me to face all of what I see in myself as beautiful, broken, lovable, flawed, complete…I want everything to be felt. Everything is important, everything has meaning, everything is and will be and I think focusing in on that through music is the biggest driving force behind my brand and the direction I am taking the Sequence Six project in 2023 and beyond.
