We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Giovanna Ficara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Giovanna below.
Giovanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success can have many definitions but to me, I would say it definitely takes a lot of consistency, hard work, and determination. Having set goals in mind and timeframes that you would want them to be achieved helps a lot but ultimately you are the only one that can make your own success happen.
Giovanna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, my name is Giovanna but I also go by Gio or G. Makeup has been one of my main interests for as long as I can remember so naturally I wanted to learn all there was and develop my skills. Starting with constantly watching YouTube, I practiced day in and out and I became good enough for my friends to start asking me to do their makeup for school dances. As I got older, school dances turned into festivals, and more than just friends started booking me which was a very proud moment for myself. I then ventured into learning how to do Nano Brows permanent makeup and now I also make my own custom vegan strip lashes. With the work that I do I am able to help people feel their most beautiful, whether it’s by giving them confidence in their brows or artistically painting their faces, I encourage clients to embrace their most authentic selves and provide a safe environment for them to feel most comfortable.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Slow and steady does not always win the race. This mostly applies to scheduling clients and working on sets such as photo and video shoots when there is only a certain amount of time allotted for makeup so no minute is wasted. Multitasking is definitely a must when it comes to time constraints.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Aside from marketing on social media, meeting clients in person has been a good strategy I’ve used. Especially since being in LA, there are always people needing makeup artists for various shoots or projects they are working on. Also going out in your own product is very effective marketing, having cards with QR codes, and bringing an aura of confidence so it attracts the potential clients/customers desired.
