We recently connected with Giorgos Labiris and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Giorgos, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?

The only way to learn a craft is by actually doing it again and again. Filmmaking is no different. And you have to have a certain authority and audacity about it. Don’t wait for permission or peer aproval. Just do the thing. Even if you ‘re not ready… You ‘re never gonna be anyway.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I was born and raised in Athens, Greece.
At the age of five, when i watched the Disney classic “Snow white’…i realised that i wanted to make films.What inspired me was observing other kids faces that were watching mesmerized… Right after high school i enrolled at the film and television studies department of the New York college.
Post graduation and over a span of two decades i have been working in the entertainment industry as a filmmaker. My career expanded when I entered advertising.These days i direct music videos, commercials and films. My independent production company, Pro Film, is based in Athens.At the moment i am developing a fun satire comedy about showbiz.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The purpose of all art is communicating what life feels like to you.Paradoxically the more authentic and personal the creation,the more universal it turns out to be. It seems that besides our cultural and ethnic differences we all share the same collective consciousness .When an artist achieves that kind of connection with other human beings it really makes life worth living.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?

We are all born with a creative capacity.Somewhere along the way we tend to forget that.My hope is that my work inspires people to remember that.
