We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Giorgia Pecora a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Giorgia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?

Absolutely. It’s extremely rare that I provoke no reactions when I share what I do for a living. Last week someone asked about my profession, and after I shared that I was an astrologer, they said ” oh, wow, a charlatan.”. I got used to that but it is such a pity considering how much inner work and study is needed for such an ancient art. The problem is that most people know astrology from pop culture and newsmagazine horoscopes called Sun Sign astrology, the “I am a Taurus. Are you a Virgo?” kind of knowledge.

Well, it is way more complicated than that. This kind of astrology became popular in the last 50 years while astrology is a practice that probably began as soon as humans first started to observe astronomical cycles. And horoscopes don’t give justice to the complexity of astrology, since actually most astrologers despise them.
As an astrologer, I work with what is called a natal chart, a drawing that represents a map of what the sky looked like from the precise moment and location of someones’ birth. And there are way more elements than the Sun sign. I do work with 12 more points, just to give you an idea…

And, regarding the educational aspect of it, astrology requires lots of skills such as counseling skills and mathematics and calculation among other things. In order to become a professional astrologer, there are courses and certifications that take years to complete. Yes, there are astrological accredited schools!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am Giorgia Pecora, a professional certified astrologer, and astrological teacher. I have been practicing astrology for the last 9 years and I have been teaching in different settings since 2006.

Being an astrologer has been a dream of mine since I was a child, but in my hometown (I am from the South of Italy) I couldn’t find the support and resources I needed to explore this world, and, anytime I would say that this was a dream of mine, people won’t understand how that could possibly be a real profession. For this reason I studied pedagogy and intercultural education and I earned a MA in English and Italian Literature while keeping on reading astrology as a hobby.

Then, fast forward, at the age of 24 I moved to Berlin, I ended my long term relationship, and a new world opened up to me. I attended an astrological-cafe in which I would meet other astrology enthusiasts and talk about natal charts. And meeting people and talking about the mysteries of stars with a community sparkled again the desire to get closer to astrology. Then I started reading tons of books, lots of them borrowed from the organizer of the astrocafe, to the point in which some people from the group started asking if there were any astrological courses in English in order to learn a bit more about themselves.

So, after two years studying in official ways with the Center of Psychological Astrology, and less official ways devouring as many books as possible and offering chart readings to friends for more than one year in order to learn how to read properly a natal chart, I decided to start my first course with most of my friends from the astro cafe.

That was the real beginning of it all. In 2017 I decided to dedicate myself to the world of astrology on a full time basis offering private readings, group courses and astro experiential retreats in nature combining my shamanic studies and astrological ones.
And here we are 8 years later absolutely in love with my profession.

I do also offer private readings in which I support people finding their own talents, understand their struggles, unlock the ways to discover their relationship needs, their sexual desires, the best way to relate with other people and cultivate better friendships. We meet, we explore how they are doing, sometimes we cry, sometimes we laugh, and we open up to new ways to see the world.

I am specialized in relationship astrology and astro genealogical studies. Let me explain to you a bit more about it because the name sounds a bit scary. Astro-Genealogy combines astrology and genealogy for the purpose of achieving greater understanding of a family or a lineage.  I work with ancestral connections with the family tree,I work with transgenerational trauma, and Idraw family trees and discover which role my client is currently occupying, and if it serves the greater good of their mission and their lineage at large. Sometimes people are living someone else’s life without being conscious about it.

I have a very specific way to work that combines astrological, shamanic, spiritual and sense of humor. I love to work with people and also have a good laugh while navigating difficult situations using trauma aware techniques to help people to connect with me in a safe way.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

Helping people find their place in the world, belonging and exploring their love potential. I have been experiencing the deeply healing powers of astrology from an energetic perspective, and I really want to support others to work with topics that are difficult to grasp such as transgenerational dynamics or crystalized family dynamics that jeopardize the well being of a person.

It is important to understand that we are not responsible for how others feel or how they react to choices we make. But we can also choose to manage those situations from a place of love and caring, instead of expectation. And Astrology provides the space for this to happen.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

Money is not evil and if you have this belief, and you have a business or a dream that depends mostly on you, you are in serious trouble. I made 40 euro for a 3 hour workshop with 20 people, I undercharged clients when I was not in a financial position to do it because I felt bad for them, I have undercharged for my services, I felt comfortable in the place of the small business girl not making too much noise because I didn’t want to look like a materialistic person.
Society teaches us that money is evil. Rich people are bad, money corrupts at any level. That’s how I grew up and what I thought was right.

It is not money that is evil, but your own level of self-worth that determines how wealthy you allow yourself to become.

The beliefs you have towards money, even your relationship with money, are the real evil here because you can work as hard as you want, you can do all the right things to grow your business, and make more money, but if your beliefs are not in alignment with the income you are trying to create for yourself, all your efforts of creating more money are ineffective.

I had to tune into the energy of money to uncover my fears, worries, beliefs, memories around it. I had to go down the memory lane and uncover any negative experiences I have had about the things my parents taught me about money, the things I have noticed through others. I grew up in a very poor family and my mum used to constantly remind me that ” poor people stay with poor people – and the rich one with other rich ones”. It seemed all set in stone.
I had to find ways to release the negative tension around these past experiences and my doubts and worries around money with the support of my own astrological natal chart. Working with my own natal chart, focusing on my place of people and asking for support from a couple of business mentors, I realized how limiting your relationship with money was.

Now I can proudly say that I want to create abundance and money to sustain and help my family, have an impact on the community, and have the resources to support people in their journeys with scholarships and projects that could help disadvantaged communities. Aho!
