Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ginille Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ginille thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I never thought I would be in the aesthetic industry. Honestly, I had a complete misunderstanding of botox and the patients who got it. Upon moving to California I was set on finding a position in the emergency room (ER). I thought it was my best chance to become a better nurse and would provide me the experience I needed to further my career.
The ER could be a difficult place to find a job, especially as a new graduate. I was fortunate enough to land some shifts at a hospital through a temp agency. I was excited to get some real experience. I knew I was in for a challenge but I was committed to making it work. And a challenge it was. During my first shift, my head was spinning and was struggling to keep up. Fortunately, there was this amazing woman who was also on my shift who gave me all kinds of love and support. She is the only reason I made it through. She even went as far as introducing me to other nurses about a full time position.
In pursuing that full time position I met another nurse, who gave me the same love and support. She was gracious enough to interview me at her hospital but actually pushed me in a direction I never imagined. In addition to working in the emergency room she also worked in a medspa. She insisted I come check it out.
The rest is history. I tried it and I loved it. I quickly realized that patients seeking this aesthetic treatment didn’t fit any kind of stereotype but where people who were simply looking for a refresh in their confidence and self esteem. I feel in love with the craft balancing art and science. I am so grateful for those women and how their support steered me to the career I love.
Ginille, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Nurse Practitioner. I have been practicing medical aesthetics since 2013 in the Los Angeles area. I received my education from Stanford and Duke Universities.
At my practice I provide medical aesthetic services using botox and filler injections. We use injectables to treat a wide variety of conditions including wrinkles, skin resurfacing, volumization, and even TMJ dysfunction symptoms. Our patients are of all ages and skin types. It’s our goal for patients to walk out feeling and looking refreshed. We are not interested in transforming the way a person looks but helping them look like the best version of themselves with natural results. Patients visit our office across the spectrum in regards to their goals, we want everyone to feel heard and empowered.
I am also huge on patient education. I want patients to understand what we are doing, why the treatment is specific to them, alternatives to treatment, how we maintain their results, etc. I tell my patients–“ask me all the questions!” I am here to support them in their aesthetic journey. We work together on this!
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely! Nursing as a whole has been on my best decisions. Although, initially when I was interested in pursuing nursing I received resistance from those around me. Many thought I should just go ahead and become a doctor. I am grateful that I listened to myself and continued on. One of the biggest benefits of nursing is flexibility. Nursing allows you to work in a variety of medical specialties, in a variety of settings (home, clinic, hospital), and a variety of schedules. Nursing allows you to design your life and change it as you see fit.
And as for aesthetic medicine–it has my heart forever. I never get tired of what I am doing. I am constantly trying to learn more, hone my skills, figure out how I can best serve my patients and help them feel their most beautiful selves. I pray for each of my patients, I ask God to guide me in my service, and I am just so grateful that I get to help people feel confident.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Social media, in particular Instagram and TikTok have been extremely effective tools for me in growing the practice. Overcoming the fear of putting myself out there has been the best decision for my business. Through social media I am able to provide value to others by sharing my story, my expertise, and my personality. I found my voice on social media but answering the questions that my patients would otherwise ask me everyday.
Beyond that, I believe that consistently providing a service where people look and feel refreshed has helped me grow. My patients have their family and friends ask what they are doing to look fresh/beautiful/confident, and they tell them that they got some Botox, fillers, and skin treatments with me.
