We were lucky to catch up with Gina Starbuck recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gina , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Since I’m in the business of ancestral healing, I see and help to integrate a lot of stories around what parents could have done differently or better. This question, “What did your parents do right”, really stands outs to me because it’s so important to try to see this side of things as much as possible. Not just in relation to our parents, but also in relationship to ourselves.
In any case, this question really hit me because I immediately got this sense of pride… My parents didn’t do everything right, (none of us do) but they did manage to help me have space to express myself fully and often. They somehow raised this sensitive, fiery, creative spirit in a way that gave me permission to dance my dances, sing my songs and really play in the field of possibility.
I’m 40 years old now. I’ve traveled the world over. I have held space for so many people that come into my world looking to heal big wounds. And what do they all need?.. Space to BE. To express, to explore and take up space. It’s what we all want. To feel held, heard, valued and accepted.
So grateful that I had that experience early on. It has shaped me in many ways.
Gina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
About me… This is always a fun one because I am so expansive & multifaceted and ever evolving.
As far as my work goes, I have recently landed on the term “healing artist”, though that is one term for a big broad spectrum of a lot of multidimensional healing!
I have been somewhat of a magician all of my life. I was exposed to Reiki healing and energy work as a young child and have always been inclined toward the spiritual.
I have the gift of art; singing, dancing, story telling. My first career was in the entertainment industry. I graced many stages and screens all over the world as a performer.
Now, (leaving out a whole lot of life in between) I integrate the artistry into my work as a spiritual guide and facilitator. I use sound healing, movement medicine, energy work and other metaphysical gifts to help people embody and live into the fullest expression of they souls.
I’m somewhat of an energetic midwife. I really seem to come into people’s lives and support them in remembering their own power and magic at big transitional times.
There’s so much more to it, but I will leave it there for now and set the intention that those that are interested will connect more and can read between the lines.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Oh, I like this one because while I have my solo offerings, most of my work offerings these days are through my business partnership, Awake & Soulful.
I met my business partner, Elyse, in Los Angeles when we were both professional dancers. Since meeting, our lives sort of always paralleled each other’s to some degree. Even to the point where we both started transitioning out of the entertainment industry and into spiritual coaching around the same time and we go pregnant (her with her first, me with me only) within about a month of one another!
We knew it was time to start a legit business partnership together in 2019 AT our first retreat offering together… I had had a vision of use doing a retreat together in Bali, called her immediately and we started planning that day.
Once we were on the ground in Bali and co-facilitating our first ceremony together, we knew we had to answer the call and it has been a beautiful, wild and expansive journey ever since!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A big one for me right now is unlearning the notion that you can only be or need to be either just a creative, or just a business strategist! It is the marriage of the two that creates the most reach, and helps bring the medicine to the furthest corners.
This is also tied into that wounded healer story where somehow many people co-signed the idea that people sharing their spiritual gifts cannot also make money. I truly feel like us medicine carriers are meant to hold plenty of abundance, including financial, so that we can be truly resourced on all fronts to be most effective with our soul’s missions on this planet.
