My entrepreneurial journey began with a STEM-focused preschool in Austin, TX. Over five years, we passionately nurtured young minds, immersing them in the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. However, a significant mental health crisis led me to a hospital stay, prompting my dedicated team to make the difficult decision to halt operations until my recovery temporarily.

During this hiatus, my dreams of educating children in the marvels of STEM were put on hold, and the preschool ultimately closed its doors. The process of overcoming this setback was arduous and took two years of focused recovery. Throughout this challenging period, I found solace and support in essential oils. From pain relief to mood improvement and aiding sleep, these natural remedies became integral to my healing journey.

When the time came to embark on a new venture, there was no question that I wanted to share the transformative power of essential oils with the world. Four years after the closure of the preschool, I founded Desert Potions—a modern apothecary specializing in health and wellness potions, aromatherapy blends, sprays, lotions, and salves.

The journey with Desert Potions has been incredibly fulfilling, and I take immense joy in hearing stories of healing and hope from our customers. Funding Desert Potions was a journey that started with a combination of strategic planning, personal investment, and a commitment to my vision. After the closure of my STEM-focused preschool, I delved into the world of wellness, drawing inspiration from the essential oils that had played a vital role in my own recovery.

To kickstart Desert Potions, I utilized the essential oils I had on hand, harnessing their inherent value to create the initial products that would become the foundation of the brand. Alongside these resources, I invested a modest sum of $287 to cover essential startup expenses and ensure the quality and authenticity of our offerings.

This grassroots approach allowed me to translate my personal passion into tangible products, making the magic of essential oils accessible to a wider audience. The combination of resourcefulness and a modest financial investment laid the groundwork for Desert Potions’ inception and set the stage for the success and growth that followed.

As Desert Potions continues to thrive, I remain proud of the resourceful beginnings that shaped our brand, and I’m committed to maintaining the same level of integrity and authenticity that defined our startup journey.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

Absolutely, at Desert Potions, I take immense pride in being intimately involved in every step of the manufacturing process. From the inception of an idea to the final product reaching our customers, my hands are directly engaged in crafting each potion with care and precision.

My journey into manufacturing began organically as an extension of my personal passion for essential oils and natural remedies. Drawing on my experience with the transformative power of these oils during my recovery, I decided to handcraft each potion to ensure the authenticity and quality that defines Desert Potions.

The manufacturing process involves blending essential oils with carrier oils or distilled moon water, wildcrafting herbs like creosote, and hand-pouring all our salves. This hands-on approach allows me to infuse every product with intention, ensuring that each potion carries the essence of dedication and care.

In the early stages, there was a learning curve, and I dedicated time to perfecting my craft. I didn’t have prior manufacturing experience, but my commitment to creating a genuine and effective product drove me to learn and refine my techniques. As a result, I’ve gained valuable insights into the nuances of blending, wildcrafting, and pouring, which have contributed to the uniqueness of Desert Potions.
