We recently connected with Gina McGowan Cade and have shared our conversation below.
Gina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
In 2014, I hired a guy to publish my book, but he fell short. I knew that the book I was to publish would be an encouragement for many others, so I wanted to do all I could to get it out to the hands of the public. So I found myself looking on the internet, looking for ways to make it all come together, and it happened.
Later, a lady from church asked if I would assist her god-daughter in getting her book published. I had a conversation with the young lady, and she explained that other publishers had rejected her book. So I asked her to send the manuscript to me, and I read it in a day and a half because it was a page-turner with excellent content. I remembered what I did for myself, so I got the wheels rolling and made it happen for her. She referred another lady to me months later, and I did the same for her. Eventually, by word of mouth, I was doing this regularly but still working my 9-5 job.
One of my sisters told me about a lady who wanted to write a book but didn’t know how to start. The lady knew the theme of her book but didn’t know how to put the content together. She sent an email with notes. From her notes, I asked her a few questions to get things rolling. She replied, and her book started to take shape. This is how I became a ghostwriter and writing coach. I wouldn’t have known I had it in me had I not needed to assist someone in this area. I didn’t publish her book. Instead, she went with a traditional publisher. They accepted her manuscript, and a few months later, her book sits on the shelves of retail stores wherever books are sold.
The people continued coming. I would get off work from my 9-5 job and work on a writing project. This went on for years until I was laid off from work, and I took it as a sign to start full-time in the writing and publishing industry. April 15, 2022, was one year of being laid off. I had just completed a writing job, and I rested for two weeks. I had to come off a short-lived sabbatical because people started to inbox me, text, and call about coaching them to write a book, while others asked if I would ghostwrite their books.
Doing this full-time was different than having one or two projects at a time. I knew that I needed assistance, and in a casual conversation with God, I told Him, and not long afterward, He provided. A young lady asked, how may I assist you? Isaiah 65:24 tells us Before they call, I will answer, while they are still speaking, I will hear. He knew what I needed before I asked, and He was already working it out for me behind the scenes. I am grateful!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am the publisher of Trinity Writing and Publishing Trinity provides services to get a book written and published whether it’s by coaching one for book content or ghostwriter. I write the book for you with only the notes you initially provide and I ask a host of questions for clarity and to provide in the book. 90% of Trinity’s clients are from word of mouth, while 10% are from social media followers.
I am proud always to see that another person has become an author and they are proud of the work Trinity has done for them, whether it was to assist them in adding content to their book or writing a book around the theme they have provided.
How did you build your audience on social media?
At the end of 2021, as I was working to grow my business full scale and challenge myself to do more and come from the box I had placed myself in. I didn’t like going Live or sharing videos of myself but my Business Coaches would push me prior to actually starting my own business to do so. I took the one thing that gave me butterflies in my stomach and challenged myself. The first thing I would do in 2022 was a Book Challenge. I knew this would also be a challenge for me #1 but nobody else knew that, in the Book Challenge. I wanted to get Trinity’s presence out on social media and the first thing I did was start a Facebook Group called Trinity Writing and Publishing. I share information on book writing, ask questions about the needs of the potential authors and give advice on writing, books, and more.
The Children’s Book Writing Challenge was next. I had butterflies not knowing if anyone would answer the call but 10 people did; nine ladies and one gentleman. For one week we worked together as a family. Monday – Friday for one hour in the evening we assembled and wrote books. We now have Children’s Authors because of that challenge. The next challenge is set for June.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I started I would do the work and charge what I thought the people could afford. It wasn’t much at all but when I began doing the work full-time to pay bills and make sure I could live without a 9-5 job I had to pivot in my thinking, not as a person doing a favor for one but as a business owner. This hasn’t stopped people from doing business with Trinity. What we offer is quality service. I don’t want to give what I don’t want.
