We recently connected with Gina Lauricella and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The legacy I will leave behind is something I’ve been pondering a lot lately. It’s a loaded question and most of us could assume that we haven’t done anything that meaningful to leave behind a “legacy”. Where you make an impact daily is with 1-1 interactions. People might say that I was very authentic, ambitious & aggressive. I strive to make people feel comfortable, even if it’s the first time that we’ve met. I genuinely care about others. When I am gone, I want to be remembered for my tenacity and my ability to cultivate positive relationships. Also, I’d like for people to note that I will always speak up when there is injustice.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a girl, I would sit in the mirror and pop my pimples until they would bleed. My mom would take me to Macy’s to visit the Clinique counter to buy skincare. After Moisture Surge wasn’t clearing me (obviously), she took me to an esthetician. Since I was 13, I was seeing that esthetician religiously for microdermabrasions, extractions, chemical peels, etc. Throughout this decade, I was able to learn so much about skin and skin health. Even though my mom and I were spending thousands of dollars between treatments and products, I never actually cleared! I was so desperately determined to figure out why I always had so much acne & could not stay clear after a treatment. That’s when I learned that there are so many other factors that play into the skin’s appearance; like hormones! Finally, I was able to clear my acne and stay clear. My love and passion for skin health combined with my wish to help others clear their acne, is why I decided to go back to school to pursue esthetics.
If you told me 10 years ago that I’d have my esthetics license, I would probably have laughed. I had paved a way for myself in the fashion industry at the Fashion Institute of Technology. My goal was to become a buyer for a large retail corporation. When I eventually accomplished that dream I’ve had for myself for over a decade, I realize that it’s not as glamorous and black & white as it had once been made out to be. It was chaotic, hectic & the pressure was unbearable. I was working 12 hour days, staring at a computer screen. After I left & had another toxic experience with another company, in my heart I knew that now was the time to pursue my passion of all things skin. It was the one thing in my life that I was absolutely decisive about and didn’t second guess for 1 second.
Currently, I offer facial treatments that combine the clinical side of esthetics & the relaxation piece. I offer chemical peels, dermaplane, lymphatic drainage facial massage, CELLSTORY liquid microneedling, microcurrent and more.
The highlights that set me apart from the community are my authenticity and how much I care for my clients and their skin. Since I am such a small business, I have the ability to really keep in contact with my clients and work very closely with them towards their skin goals. Specifically regarding my acne clients, we touch base at least every 2 weeks to discuss skin progress & needs.
As a Face Reality certified acne expert, I have majority of the tools I need to help my clients achieve clearer and healthier looking skin. This part of my business absolutely fulfills me.
I am most proud of the fact I took a huge risk and leap of faith to pursue something that I might have been bad at. I left behind money and a corporate world that I was climbing fast. Also, being able to successfully clear my clients’ acne is something I am so proud of! When clients tell me that I am changing their lives, I am clearly doing good and I am where I am supposed to be!
Excitement and joy rush over me when I am in the treatment room. I genuinely love what I do. My clients are so amazing and diligent. I am so blessed to have their support!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Trust is the most effective strategy for me. Most of my clients are people that I had been friends with in the past or my current friends. These people trust me. They see who I am; the standards that I have and the way I carry myself. It is an aspirational and approachable brand image. In addition, I have posted before and after photos of clients and myself. It’s important to have a nice portfolio of your work visible to the public so clients know what to expect or what they can hope to achieve! Videos are also great because they physically show what to expect during a treatment
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth has been extremely helpful for me. My first few clients would tell their friends and family about me. Then I end up servicing their fiancé, mother, sister, etc. Also, through daily life, you meet a lot of people. If they had a positive experience with you and they find out that you offer a service, there’s a new client right there!
