Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gina Judge. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Gina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
When I first launched my financial coaching program in 2020, I had a young woman approach me. She’d gone through a divorce, moved back home with her parents and was in the process of rebuilding her life. She dealt with a handful of setbacks and adversity. In our initial meeting, I picked up on how mentally depleted she was. I could read it in her body language and the way she carried herself. She had big dreams and aspirations. “Gina, I want to pay off all of my debt, scale my business, move out of my parents home and live downtown.” I promised her that if she followed my advice, she’d do exactly that.
We worked together for a series of 6 months, in this time frame she completely transformed her relationship with money. She soaked my advice up like a sponge and applied my recommendations immediately. This client went through a transformative experience, she set up financial systems, built a money routine, paid off all of her debt, started investing, scaled her business, and she MOVED downtown! By the end of the program, she was glowing. Today, she’s embarking on a journey where she’ll be traveling solo half way across the globe for 5 weeks.
The other day, we went for lunch and she told me: “None of this would have been possible if I didn’t meet you.” Those words really moved me.
Financial literacy is the cornerstone of a woman’s success. A woman’s financial future should be self-determined, regardless of influential men in her life. The work I do helps women foster financial autonomy.
This particular client is in the process of becoming a life coach so that she can help women navigate life’s challenges and lead a more fulfilling life.
The work I do at The MMG has a ripple effect, imagine the number of lives this woman will impact for the better, all because she made the decision to work with me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner and founder of The MMG, a dynamic financial literacy company and podcast that empowers women to win with their money. My mission revolves around equipping women with the tools and knowledge to lead independent lives through financial education.
I offer various services ranging from consultations to a mentorship program. The mentorship program is a 4 month commitment where I put my clients through a financial bootcamp that transforms their lives.
By applying a holistic approach to finance I teach my clients how to budget, manage spending habits, create effective strategies to reduce debt, build credit, achieve savings goals, guidance on investing options, work through career transitions, launch businesses, and build plans to achieve goals such as home ownership, retirement planning and so much more!
What sets me apart from other financial advisors is that I’m a woman and a woman of colour. I openly share my story and journey with money. At 18, I found myself on the brink of homelessness. When I needed a mentor and help, I had no one to turn to. This is the reason I started The MMG, I created it to provide a safe space for women to consume financial education.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
In 2023, I had to unlearn being consistently disappointed. I learnt how to adjust my expectations of people. Establishing healthy boundaries is essential. As an entrepreneur it’s easy to wear yourself thin, we often overextend ourselves to the point of exhaustion.
Generally speaking, I’m the type of person who will continuously pour into people that I care about whether it’s my friends, family, peers, or clients. I view my relationships with people as an investment but I learnt this year that 99% of people have a transactional mindset with relationships.
Recently, I reflected on some of my relationships both on a personal and professional level, I realized that I was going above and beyond for people who couldn’t do the bare minimum for me. There’s this saying “don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” it means you shouldn’t try to harm or be ungrateful towards those who provide for you and support you. It’s important to recognise and appreciate the people that contribute to your well-being and success.
I’ve learnt to communicate openly and I’ve also learnt how to express my needs and feelings while simultaneously encouraging others to do the same. I treat disappointment as an opportunity to learn and grow. Asking myself what can I take away from this experience? How can I handle similar situations better in the future?
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I gained my reputation by delivering exceptional value, I’ve consistently provided high quality service over the last 3 years. Having proudly serviced thousands of clients under The MMG, I’ve never had a single client complain about not getting their “money’s worth.” This built trust and positive word-of-mouth.
I’ve always maintained my integrity and ethics in all business dealings. Transparency, honesty, and integrity are fundamental pillars in my business.
Finally, I built a strong online presence. I’ve shown up everyday on my story for the last 1095 days, creating thought provoking content.
