We were lucky to catch up with Gina Fick recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We started this clinic in November 2017 with the vision of providing outstanding treatment in the most effective way possible. We are passionate about being able to help patients thrive and excel beyond your expectations by offering highly-skilled, evidence-supported physical therapy and sports recovery services so that patients can achieve the BEST results!
We are not a high volume, PT mill-style clinic. Instead, we value patient-centered, one-on-one care, where we are able to spend adequate time with our patients and fully utilize our skills to help patients feel better and return to a healthy and active lifestyle. We want you to have a meaningful, successful experience with physical therapy, and that is the foundation of this business. Our focus is solely on outstanding, patient care that will empower you with hope and success.
We offer state of art treatments, including Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy, Blood Flow Restriction Training, Running and Gait Analysis, Sports Performance Analysis, and AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill training. We work with active adults and athletes of all ages and skill levels in order to help them recover from injury as quickly and safely as possible in order to optimize their function and maximize their athletic potential!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I became passionate about physical therapy during my high school and college years when I played on various sports teams. During my freshman year in college, I sustained a serious and season-ending ACL injury that kept me sidelined and unable to basketball, but through that experience, I discovered my passion for physical therapy.
I was impressed with the impact that physical therapy had on myself and other people trying to get back to the activities and sports they love. Physical Therapy allowed me to rehab from a serious injury and gave me the ability to play college basketball again. This inspired me to become a physical therapist and help athletes prevent injuries, recover from injuries, and return to doing activities they love.
I received a Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2006. I have been practicing as a physical therapist specializing in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine for over 23 years.
In our practice, our goal is to help patients return to the sports and activities that they love as quickly and safely as possible so that they can maximize their physical and athletic potential and return to a fulfilling and happy life. We help patients get to the root cause of their pain and work to treat the source of pain or movement dysfunction. We listen to our patients and we want our patients to know that we care about them and are passionate about seeing them meet their goals. We work hard to gain our patients’ trust and have developed close working relationships with many of our patients and their families because they trust us with their care. We primarily rely on word of mouth referrals and are thankful to have patients that refer their friends, family members, coworkers and teammates to us.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I started this business with $0 cash. When I was turned down for a small business loan at our bank (they said I had to provide 5 years of business financials), I decided to open up a $10,000 line of credit on a bank credit card that had no interest or fees for 1 year. I worked hard to pay off that line of credit in less than 4 months.
I began working as a mobile outpatient physical therapist, going from home to home treating patients in the Denver metro area, while saving as much cash as I could in the process. I worked hard to develop strategic partnerships with MD’s, coaches, athletic trainers, and parents in the South Denver metro area while promoting my mobile practice. I created my own business cards, website, and marketing materials on a very small budget. In order to add to my cash reserve, I also worked PRN for a local skilled nursing center in order to supplement my income. I kept my costs as low as possible and saved as much cash as possible. I volunteered with key strategic partners in order to gain their trust and respect in the community so that they would refer more patients to my practice. I asked for advice from key successful business owners that I trusted and worked as hard as possible to capitalize on their recommendations.
In all of this, I stayed focused on the mission of providing exceptional one on one patient care in the most effective and efficient way possible.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think that they key has been to provide exceptional service that patients can trust and rely on. They know that when they come in to see us, we will get to the root cause of their pain or dysfunction and will provide a efficient and successful plan of action to help them fully recover. Another key has been aligning with strategic partners who have built trust and integrity within the community of patients that we serve.
