We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gina Cavalier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
MONEY. Money carries a unique energy and is a significant thread in the intricate tapestry of our lives. Engaging in a reflective journey is essential to understanding how it influences our experiences in this remarkable existence we are privileged to navigate. Recognizing your relationship with money and cultivating a sense of respect for its role in our society is a crucial aspect of spiritual and energetic growth.
Many individuals tend to overlook this vital step. Instead of exploring the deeper meaning of money, they often find themselves caught in a cycle of desire, merely wanting or needing more. While these feelings are natural and part of the human experience, pausing to examine the essence of money itself is a transformative practice.
In my journey, I used to view money solely as an object—something I either had in abundance or lacked entirely. I allowed this object to influence my emotions and state of being. Regardless of your current stance on money, developing an understanding and approaching it with mindful awareness can be a powerful practice. This awareness fosters the foundation for creating the life you envision, establishing a harmonious partnership with money along the way.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have become a subject matter expert on living in the moment and accepting the flow of life, no matter what challenges arise. This mindset has made me resilient and excited to pursue what makes me eager to get out of bed in the morning, free from judgment of myself or others. I have too many wonderful things to explore to waste time on trivial matters that could harm myself or others.
My days are rarely linear or overbooked, yet I am highly productive in all my endeavors and have achieved significant success since learning to loosen my grip on control. For example, if I meet the most interesting person in the world at a coffee shop, I could choose to sit and listen to their life story, connecting me authentically to the human experience we all share.
I teach these principles in my writings, including my last published book, “Surviving Suicidal Ideation,” and my upcoming book releasing in December, titled “Planet Walking: A Handbook for the Living.” In addition to being an author and my own illustrator, I serve as the Chief Marketing Officer of Joplin Beauty, a natural beauty brand. There, I create and promote products that help our valued clients shine from the inside out, stimulating hair growth or providing gentle cleansing for intimate areas.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When you are a highly productive or goal-oriented person, you typically have an outline of expectations that guides your existence. I used to imagine that I was competing in the Olympics of life, striving to earn gold stars every day. Ironically, the more I achieved, the further away I felt from happiness, which was utterly confusing. I was accomplishing the very things I had worked so hard to attain, yet I felt distant and disconnected from my essence and purpose.
It took a significant awakening for me to recognize my own patterns and the controlling nature of the pressure I was mostly placing on myself. What is difficult to realize is that this rigid approach creates a state of resistance around you. You tend to give too much importance to the labels and titles you own, even though they don’t hold the deep meaning you might expect in your heart.
I had to unlearn that the way to reach my heart’s desire and live the life I truly wanted was not about pushing that boulder up the mountain, but rather about finding the right tools to break it apart in the first place so I could glide up the mountain with ease. I achieved this through deep internal work, where I discovered love and compassion for myself, and subsequently for all living things around me.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
At the very core of who I am, I know there is a spark of light that cannot be dimmed. My superpower is that no matter how many times I’ve been knocked down, I always get back up to pitch my ideas repeatedly. I am still doing it.
When you bring any creative project to life—by “creative project,” I mean something that you envision that didn’t exist before, something that comes from a part of you that makes you giddy and smile at the thought of it—you learn to appreciate the subtle scars left on your memories from getting kicked in the teeth over and over again in business. These scars remind you of how far you’ve come, your strength, and how you have learned to be strong in adversity. Every great idea or invention has faced scrutiny. If it’s in your heart, it is worthwhile, no matter what anyone thinks.
Even when everything seems to be against you, you must stand tall, look directly at what scares you the most, and remind yourself that you can overcome it. You might have to be flexible and make some changes, but never let someone else talk you out of your vision.
