We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

Back in 2021 I was home visiting family for spring break when I got hit by a DUI driver, forcing me to spend the rest of that year learning how to walk again.
. I was forced to learn a lesson many of us have heard but don’t really emphasize until we are forced to, that tomorrow is not promised. I’ve always been a music lover, and music is like therapy to me, always getting me through the tough times in life. I knew at that very moment that I wanted to spend the rest of my life surrounded by music in all capacities, which fueled me to start creating. I’ve been writing since I was 14 and over the years those journal entries turned into poems and then into songs. But it wasn’t until my accident that my passion finally put a battery in my back to pursue a life of creativity

Gina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Hi my name is Gina and I have my own radio brand called Hidden Gemz that looks to play upcoming artists from all genres, connect with artists to collaborate creatively, and more recently started venturing into videography and streaming. I’m also an aspiring songwriter and artist.

I started in the media field back in 2022 when I was a work study student at my College Radio Station. I quickly learned how to produce, co host, host and Board Op both Live and Pre-Recorded radio shows. This newly found passion influenced me to create my radio show Hidden Gemz to give up and coming artist a platform for their music to be heard. During this time I also started taking the music I was making seriously and look to write for other Artists in the future.

I provide potential radio play, songwriting services, and networking opportunities for Creatives I work with. What sets me apart from others is my personality. I am a big people person and will genuinely have you laughing until you pee yourself! I’m genuine and always look to collaborate with creatives I network with!

I am most proud of getting over my fear of being perceived and releasing music consistently! I want potential fans to know that I write music with substance, and I take the power of the pen very seriously. I create to relate, and to anyone that lends me their ears, they will not be disappointed! I want future clients who are looking for a songwriter to know that I am experienced and that the work speaks for itself!

I want potential Followers to know that Hidden Gemz is in the process of expanding in 2025, outwardly looking to collaborate with artists and creatives no matter the field(videography,photography,music,visual, etc)

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

That indescribable feeling during the process of creating. There is a specific kind of happiness, joy that all creatives feel when creating. Sometimes you can’t put it into words but it’s that feeling, that high that reminds you of why you started creating in the first place, and why you continue to!

The most rewarding part is the process, being your first critic, listener. Taking an idea and executing it. Taking a piece of your imagination and turning it into reality, into art. Something that’s going to live on even when you’re long gone!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

My Creative journey is driven by pure inspiration. From Authors like James Baldwin, poets like Nikki Giovani and Maya Angelou, to artists like J Cole and Kehlani. I have studied some of the greats in various forms of art that have all taught me one thing, vulnerability through creativity sets the soul free. Creativity is a cycle of inspiration. From every great there is someone that inspired them to pick up a pen or paintbrush.

The goal is to inspire those after me to be vulnerable and transparent through their creative process, allowing themselves an outlet to show up freely and unapologetically.
