We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gillian Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gillian below.
Hi Gillian, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I would say it was always an out of reach concept for me. When I was younger, I would have such a deep obsession with filming, film and the storytelling of other worlds. Never really thought I’d have the capability or the creativity to embark on such a journey. I would say that through traveling and many experiences I had with the marine corps definitely gave me the push I needed. Realizing that there were so many cultures and the people that have so many amazing stories themselves was exactly what I needed to get my start.
Gillian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always made silly videos of myself or friends and had a wonderful time matching music or sound effects to it through social media and such. Through all of it, I branched out so many times watching as many movies and tv shows I could because I was so obsessed with escaping into a different reality. Through film school, being able to direct and put together a film from start to end is such a profound power in shaping the world or someone’s life. I know that some people make art and use their creativity, but I think life sometimes is really hard, so giving people an outlet to escape into another world/reality is important too.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think people anywhere they are in the world should really look int seeing what else lies outside their own hometown and country. Whether that be watching movies from different countries or even giving someone the chance to show you something you never would do on a day to day basis.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to show people I’ve known or the world in general that there is a whole world out there and pursuing your dreams is so important. You only have one life, so what are you going to do with it? If you dream, why not pursue it? If you have the chance to live happy and free doing what you love take it!
