We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gilca Lorenis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gilca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Under a full moon in the year of 2018 was the very first time I ever picked up a paint brush. Only a few weeks after those Colorado mountains set me free. Reminiscing on the feeling I wanted to hold on so tightly. I came back home searching for ways to feed my soul. Surprisingly I managed to unlock one of my greatest hidden talents. Art! Never in a million years would I have imagined the journey I’m on today. The many paintings I’ve completed and sold since my first painting in 2018. I believe it all came at the perfect timing. I sacrificed and feared so much in my life around that time. So, unlocking that door to this gift gave me the confidence, motivation and courage to love me again and make the change. Art was my getaway, my escape, my mediation, my medicine. Art slowed down time, made me appreciate Mother Earth on a different level. I started grounding and connecting with her. I became one and witness many things fall into place for me. It didn’t happen over night but I believed in the good things that were coming. When it came to the most essential skill, I would have to say, patience. Life could become too fast, hectic, and even stressful at times. Feeding my soul requires me to find time to merge through those “life obstacles” and keep learning my craft. There is always something new to learn and paint. I’m still holding tight to the feeling of freedom. The mountains have taught me many lessons.
Gilca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Resigning in Tampa, FL and completely self-taught artist also known on social media as Gilca L Arts. I’ve been honing my skills in acrylic paints since 2018. Unlocking my hidden talent. I picked up my very first paintbrush under the Leo full moon. Originally a model, then blended my painting skills with my twenty-plus years of many other talents, bringing about a perfect Mother and Daughter bond of my two passions. My evolution into acrylic paints really allowed me to introduce another element to this union and extend the range of my talent even further. My use of finding beauty in Mother Earth allows myself to challenge the boundaries of art to tell stories which explore the paintbrush depths of movement and composition. I’m so honored to bring families together with memorial portrait paintings, life into rooms, smiles, but what I’m mostly proud of is knowing my art travels and will live on forever.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, having the eyes to see smiles on my clients faces. Knowing the hours, days, and weeks spent completing a one of a kind art piece will live on forever. And knowing my art pieces go to heartwarming individuals that appreciate the art just as much. Now that’s gratitude. Keeps me going.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My biggest goal driving my creative journey is being able to become a full time artist and make a living for myself and family. Holding on tightly and manifesting all that’s mine.
