We recently connected with Gilberto Aguayo and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gilberto thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I personally believe in giving it all; giving your best. Passion, discipline, commitment, responsibility, and innovation I consider are a few important keys to being successful.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started being into art when I was 12 years old, art in general. Experimenting with different methods of paint such as oil, acrylic, and spray paint until a curiosity for airbrush started to grow on me when I was 15. I remember having to sell a dirt bike (hobby I was and still to this date I am passionate about) to be able to afford an airbrush machine. Once I mastered the airbrush I wanted to take on a new challenge, so when I turned 16 I told a cousin of mine I would like to try and do tattoos. A few months later, he gifted me my first tattoo machine ever. I am now 37 years old and this is all I do for a living; art/murals/tattoos. I am proud to say I worked myself up and that I am living my dream. I give my best every single day for I wake up with the same passion my 12 year old self had when first discovering art. I own a private studio, where I work by appointment to give my clients the best. The best service, quality work, and experience. In my studio I get to know them, and create a bond where I am able to visualize what they expect and exceed their expectations giving my view and working an original piece of art they will carry forever in their skin. Most of my pieces are custom worked, exclusive, one of a kind, but I also enjoy working realism, portraits and what I enjoy the most, cover ups. I have been able to help clients redeem their mistakes or change of mind covering up a tattoo they no longer feel identified with. And the satisfaction of seeing their faces and some teary-eyes when they see their new piece of art fills my heart and reassure me that I am fulfilling my purpose.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What I think helped me build my reputation withing the market I am in is being responsible, respectful and consistent.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The way I seen my clientele grow is mostly by referrals. That being said, paying attention to what the client wants, and go an extra mile for them, having them feel comfortable, respect their time and keep your word. Never offer something you cannot execute, be transparent and communicate. This is the strategy that works for me on growing my business, my clientele.
