We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gilberta Collins-Heflin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gilberta below.
Hi Gilberta, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Coming up with the name of my business was a collaborative effort between my late mother and I. The GG came about because I had a little nephew named Dakari who could not say Aunt Gil so he called me Aunt GG so I said lets have GG in it. Then my mother said well lets also call it the FlowerHut because you can get everything her under one hut! So GG’s FlowerHut was born!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
GG’s has been an established, but very small business for the past 14 years and I am expanding my business to meet the needs and demands for a floral designer in our communities and city. My business encompasses much more than flowers, it offers creative designs and decor for any occasions. I have an excellent track record for customer satisfaction because I have never compromised on the quality and the services provided to the customer. I believe in keeping the customers happy and providing them with products at a very competitive price. I also specialize in Designing Floral arrangements and services for funerals, special occasions and banquets and creative gifts and designs for your home, church or business!
Have you ever had to pivot?
I had to pivot in my floral business just this past year when my mother passed. She taught me and showed my all about flowers and the flower business. My love of flowers and plants came from her. Once she passed I was so hurt and was without my flower partner and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep the business. But one morning I woke up and just said OK we worked hard for this and I still have a whole world out there to give flowers to and to make smile. So I kept the flower shop and decided to open it full time.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I believe in using social media for your business! Most times its free advertising to you and if you stay with it and use it to your best ability and beyond it will serve you well. You have to stay with it and what you know then you need to ask. It would especially benefit you to talk with some of the younger generation who can always help with the new and different types of social media
