Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gigi Dia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gigi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
It was in 2016 in Paris, when I met a director and his wife casting director. They told me they were looking for an actress like me, but for me there was no such thing! I was like, what? Me, an actress? I always loved watching movies but I wasn’t seeing any actresses looking like me. Or it was very rare! So I said no, I probably taught it was a joke. But a few weeks later the director invited me on his set, I remember it was in the streets of Paris, with a view on the Eiffel Tower and that’s when I fell in love. It was so cool to see all those cameras, the crew, and theses beautiful actresses! And there was even food! So I was like that’s it, that’s what I want to do!
Gigi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an actress and filmmaker from Paris, France. I’m currently live in Los Angeles. I recently produced, directed and star in the film Our Boat which premiered at LA Short international film festival.
I enjoy my journey of being an international actress. It can be very changeling sometimes but I enjoy every bit of it.
I’ve been doing this for the past 7-8 years and I love it so much! I love working with brands and representing them.
Recently, I did a commercial for the brand HausLabs by Lady Gaga currently in Sephora US and UK, and I have a feature film, L’Enfant du Paradis by Salim Kechiouche, coming out in French theaters December 6th, 2023.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, being an artist is to have the chance to express myself to the world in the way I want it. To be able to share my vision it’s so rewarding to me. I like to create and play characters. It allows me to be in someone else’s skin and understand their struggles and passions, which brings more compassion into my life and opens my mind.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my view, it is important for society to recognize and actively support artists and creatives to foster a thriving creative ecosystem. To financially support the art and giving the chance to women and independent artist is great way to see original art that are innovative.
