We recently connected with Gifti Moiwa and have shared our conversation below.
Gifti , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned Content Creation and Modeling by mainly doing things from my heart, studying/researching, but most importantly lots of Practicing.
Knowing what I know now, I would have sped up the learning process by just doing instead of waiting to “perfect” everything and instead just starting and learning as I go. I’ve learned that just getting started is better than focusing too much on head knowledge.
I realized that it’s best to learn what you need to and then just take action. Growth is a journey so it’s important to not waste too much time waiting until you’re “perfect” to start. Time will keep passing by. Perfection is an illusion and that is one of the obstacles that I believe hindered me from creating more.
Being a Content Creator/Creative is like a Tree with many branches and also like wearing many hats. Most of the time, You are the Photographer, Stylist, Makeup and Hair Artist, Writer, Marketer, and many more. So these are all essential skills I had to learn to better the craft.
It’s not always easy to balance all of those things and it can get overwhelming sometimes especially, if you have a full time job outside of that along with other responsibilities. That’s when self care, proper planning, time management, and organization skills are also needed.
It is however a very fun and rewarding journey that has opened the door to many memorable experiences, great people, and life changing opportunities.
So far I’ve had the opportunity to be in several Fashion Shows, Music Videos, Commercial videos/photoshoots, Brand Campaigns, and many other projects. I truly enjoy what I do and enjoy growing and learning new things as I go.
Gifti , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi My Name is Gifti; I was born in Liberia West Africa. I moved to the US in 2005.
I have many Passions however, I AM mainly a Content Creator, Fashion/Commercial Model, and Life & Style Blogger.
I’ve always been passionate about many things life and style related from the beginning. It just became a part of who I am.
I enjoy dressing up, Reading, Writing, Photography, trying out different activities, and exploring in nature amongst other things.
I first got into the industry by starting an official Instagram account for my hobbies, which led to me working with several different brands. Then I started attending casting calls and quickly got into the modeling industry like I always dreamed of doing.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My Main Goal is to inspire others to live their most Authentic lives, be themselves, and go after their dreams and passions.
I want people to know that anything is possible.
I’ve seen that Talent comes in many shapes, sizes, heights, and races so, my advice to anyone afraid to start going after their dreams is to not allow any perceived obstacles hold you back from doing whatever it is you are passionate about.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I went into my very first rehearsals ever for my very first show in February of 2020, even though I’ve never done a runway walk before. My only experience at the time was from watching shows such as America’s next top model and Victoria’s-secret fashion shows.
I was asked to walk and just started with no clue what I was doing.
The Coach kindly pulled me aside and give me some tips. I also watched the other Models and took mental notes.
After that I realized that it’s not as easy as it appears, and that if this is something I’m passionate about and planned to continue doing then I was going to have to put in some work.
I got so many encouraging feedback after the show and many people were shocked that that was my first time modeling.
I was almost in tears when I ran into one of the ladies at a fashion event months later and she told me how the coach from the above experience was telling her ‘wow Gifti really took my advice and ran with it; she’s doing so good and I’m so proud of her.’
I also had a Designer reach out to me for a project and I was so honored that she selected me to be a part of it even though I was so new. She told me ‘I’ve been noticing your progress and you’ve been working hard and doing really good. Keep up the good work; you never know who’s watching.’
These experiences really added to my motivation to keep working hard and improving day by day.
