We recently connected with Gibran Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Gibran, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Growing up, my dream was to be a baseball player. From the age of five until I was twenty-one, almost every part of my life revolved around school and baseball. Acting wasn’t even on my radar.
At the same time, I had a deep love for music. I learned to play the guitar when I was twelve, and eventually moved to the bass. That creative spark was always there, even if I didn’t know yet where it would lead me.
I started seriously pursuing acting at 25 while living in Mexico City. I was a musician, occasionally doing commercials and ad campaigns, and I found myself surrounded by creative people: actors, musicians, artists. I wanted to improve my casting skills for commercials, so I signed up for some acting workshops. That’s when something shifted.
At 26, I landed my first television role on a Telemundo show. It was a huge moment for me. I was hooked.
For a long time, I wished I had started acting sooner. I used to think that if I’d begun earlier, my career would’ve taken a different path. I’d look at younger actors and wonder if they were destined for more success because they had a head start.
But with time, I’ve come to understand that everyone’s journey is unique. I’m exactly where I need to be. And honestly, I’m grateful I started when I did. I had lived, traveled, worked, loved, failed, and grown before stepping into acting. All of that life experience has made me a better artist.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every decision and every turn along the way brought me here, and I’m thankful for all of it.

Gibran, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Gibran Garcia. I’m an actor. I’ve been in love with performing and storytelling since I was a kid, but I’ve been professionally working in this art form for a little over ten years. I’m bilingual in English and Spanish, and I bring that versatility into everything I do.
I moved to Mexico City when I was 21 to chase my dreams, originally as a musician. I played bass and was deep in the creative world, trying to make it work. A friend suggested I audition for commercials to earn a little extra cash, and I gave it a shot. I quickly realized I had a lot to learn, so I signed up for acting workshops. That’s where everything changed. That’s how my journey as an actor began.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working on TV shows for Netflix, Prime Video, Paramount, Telemundo, TNT, and Televisa. Some of the shows I’ve been part of include La Casa de las Flores 2, Sign Here, Monarca, La Señora Acero, Hasta Que Te Conocí, Yankee, and Dani Who?. This past April, I had a huge milestone: my New York City theater debut at The Tank Theater in the play Astronauts Wanted. It was a dream come true.
I’ve always been fascinated by human behavior. That’s what draws me to acting. I love diving into what makes people tick and telling stories that reflect that. I also love comedy. Since I was a kid, laughter has been one of my favorite things in the world. I’ve even done stand-up in New York and Mexico City.
What sets me apart? I’m me. There’s no other actor who has my background, my lens on life, or my voice. It took me a while to realize that the more I embraced who I truly am, the more I started booking work. I stopped trying to guess what casting directors wanted and started showing them who I am. That’s when everything started to click.
I studied the Meisner Technique at the Maggie Flanigan Studio, and I’m always working on my craft. Acting is a lifelong journey, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I’m even more excited about where I’m headed.
What I want people to know about me and my work is simple: I care. I care deeply about telling meaningful stories, making people laugh, and creating characters that feel real. I’m here for the long haul, and I’m just getting started.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is the connection it gives me to my true self. It’s about being real, with both the parts of me I show to the world and the parts I usually keep hidden.
I create because I need to. I act because I need to live through something fully. It’s never been about the praise or the recognition. It’s about the process, the doing, the feeling. It’s about doing it for me.
There’s a Charles Bukowski poem, “so you want to be a writer,” that says it best: “there is no other way, and there never was.” That’s exactly how it feels for me. Creating is the thing that makes me feel alive. That’s why I do it. Always.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I was taught that as a man, showing any sign of weakness was not acceptable. Crying in front of others, whether friends, family, or classmates, was seen as something to be ashamed of. I have always been a sensitive person. I pick up on energy and emotions easily, but that part of me was treated like a problem. It often led to bullying and made me feel like I did not belong.
So I learned to keep everything in. I pushed my feelings down for years because I thought I had to. It was only when I started training as an actor that I realized how much that had affected me. Acting forced me to unlearn those old ideas. It showed me that feeling is not only okay, it is essential. I had to give myself permission to feel again, to express, to let go.
Through this work, I have been able to unpack a lot of emotional weight I had carried for a long time. I am still learning how to express myself in daily life, but I have grown so much. Acting has helped me reconnect with who I really am, and I am grateful for that.
I now know that being vulnerable, and being able to express my emotions and feelings, makes you stronger. More resilient.
