We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gianni Girtman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gianni below.
Gianni, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
I started in corporate sales, first as a recruiter and later as an account manager for one of the largest telecom companies in the US. I quickly learned my way through the company and sales psychology of people and business to the best of my ability. I came to understand that selling is really more of a personal trait once it was learned, and that i could apply it to anything. So i realized I hated my job and wanted to sell something more in what i liked and by process of elimination i started selling my DJ friends into the clubs.
After i realized my friends rates weren’t gonna cut it due to the % not being that high, i decided to then switch the narrative and have the venue pay me for orchestrating the nights on a regular basis. From there i found myself having connections with DJs from other cities who wanted to play and one thing led to another.
What really defined me was when i started my own after parties to help milk it a little more cause my fees weren’t cutting it with the venue. And thats pretty much how i ended up where i am now 4 years later, working under Paul Campbell at Nu Management and Eric Fuller at Blnk Cnvs
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
This is a loaded question. Back when I was still in college I used to go to Free shows at a venue called Celine in Orlando Florida. They used to do free shows on their rooftop on Sundays and before the day of the show I would snag a few free RSVPs and see who wanted to join me from by friend groups.
From there I got connected with someone names Manny Lopez at one of these shows and he explained to me a Collective he started named House Hats, and how he needed help starting the movement in Orlando. And from there I went from being their promoter and door guy to becoming their community leader and project manager. From there I started working with Celine during COVID to help them stay in business and do rooftop parties every Friday. Which began to grow im popularity as i started to run and afterhours called “Around the Corner” in tandem with the House Hats Takeovers on the Celine Rooftop.. much more has sprung from there but that was a where my first foothold really started.
So from working in Orlando I really became a jack of all trades but I like to think I focus best on Brand Development, Project Management, and Talent Procurement for event companies and venues.. i like to think my people skills in telemarketing sales helped me a lot when it came to rapport building and if i coupled that with my real life interpersonal skills just really makes me strong at closing out deals.
When it comes to what im proud of; I would say what Ive accomplished so far with my tenure here, im proud of who I can call mentors, friends, and colleagues, and im proud to say that everyone I’ve done business with has nothing really bad to say about how i conduct business.
What I want potential clients and followers to know? Understand that I’m a closer, so if you truly need to get something done, hit me up.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
When it comes to particular goals. Its really 2 things push the artists i represent to become the best possible version of themselves. The second thing being now that I work with Blnk Cnvs in Florida, I’d like to help become a pillar in the overall music community where I can help give avenues for all music to prosper in Florida.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Unfortunately there arent any real resources for what I do. The best I can say is learn from those around you; whether it be sales psychology, nuances bookings, or how the money pie is split. Just make sure you learn how it all works in any way you can. No one is gonna spell it out for you.
