We recently connected with Gia Westerfield and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What it takes to be successful, you need motion, and by that I mean you have to continuously keep moving no matter what. Push your career daily by always doing something better than yesterday that could grow your business. Personally I stand for my clothing brand, so I work hard everyday to pursue my goals and ideas for my business. It’s fine to take a little break but when you’re always on the move, and putting in work daily more opportunities tend to come your way and you just never know what could happen. With that being said I strongly believe staying consistent is key to becoming successful. Keep working, elevate, stay unique and never give up your craft. You never know whose watching your story.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Gia Westerfield is the name. I am a clothing designer at 22 and I have a small business which is a clothing brand. My products are custom clothing and accessories for all ages and I simply love what I do. I walked into this industry while in college, so I had a ton of creative space at the time, my peers and I were also very into the fashion industry. One day we all decided to design and paint on jeans and that’s where it all begin, the rest is history.
I decided to name the brand Geeyah Exclusives, what sets me apart from others is the unique style of designs that I use and the patterns and colorways that I use. I spend plenty of time dedicating my life to finding the correct shapes, patterns, materials, quality etc for the brand because it all matters. I’m pushing towards a more luxury street style look for 2023 to give my supporters actual real pieces. It’s always important to leave something memorable that your customers can point out and also return back for more. It’s more than just a piece of clothing it’s a form of art as well and I try to put my best work out each and every time.
Something that I’m most proud of is having the amount of supporters that I do have. I’m from a small town in the city so to see my work in various locations is almost insane to me, when you put out great work that people like they will definitely support. Im also proud of getting the little attention that I deserve, I’ve had several artists, influencers, etc to interact with me because of my brand and even had some actually pay for my products and that major to me because a lot of people in the industry won’t even acknowledge you let alone pay you, so that’s love and I know it’ll be more to come very soon.
I want all my supporters to know I do this for y’all! I love seeing people get fly and what’s a better way than using my own brand to electrify that. Flyer Attire is what I call everything that I put out into the world that just shows some of my love for fashion.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media has absolutely been THE best source of my new clients, I spend a lot of time making sure I have fun and eye catching promo videos and pictures on my business pages to help obtain more following and potential customers and it works. Also simply sharing my brand around helps me gain a lot of new customers as well. Another source that helps are pop up shops, and anything that has to do with a setup, when people physically see the brand in person it’s literally 10x better and also a tremendous great way to help me gain more potential customers.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
When I first started my business I started off by doing on hand custom clothing everything was literally hand made and very time consuming so eventually I started using a manufacture. I didn’t know much about manufactures or vendors at all and didn’t have much help with finding one so I had to take a leap of faith and try to put my trust into a vendor that was thousands of miles away. I finally found a manufacture that had great quality and work so I put my trust into them and they most definitely got the job done for me, my first order was one hundred hoodies and they all sold out. What I’ve learned along the way about using a manufacture is that you have to be highly detailed about your designs so it can come to life exactly how you planned it to. It’s very easy for a product to come out totally wrong and not at all what you wanted. You’ll need your own sizes and you’ll also need to make sure you are dealing with legitimate manufactures because yes, there are scammers that will pretend and take your funds, so always be alert and aware of that.
