We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gia Adams Wheeler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gia below.
Gia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Two years before my sister Riki and I set out to create our homeware label, our world was in a pandemic. I noticed the impact that widespread interruption was having on small businesses and our environment.
Quarantines were reshaping consumer habits towards online shopping convenience and mass-produced prices. As entire shopping lists to distant fulfillment centers were purchased in just a few clicks, it seemed like production was at a halt for local skilled tradesmen and women. It was a case of missed supply and demand. I thought, if I could introduce a digital convenience factor to the skilled trades industry and promote artisanal product benefits with today’s shoppers, I could help navigate the market to better meet consumer needs, limit waste, and support local.
In January of 2022, Riki and I set out to create a brand built for a new consumer. Our shared appreciation characterizes our collections of carefully curated pieces from the past and present. Each design serves to preserve the ages, support time-honored trade skills, and protect the environment. Riki lives in Paris and sources vintage while I work with local artists and skilled trade experts to produce our revived vintage and handmade collections.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Adamo1987 is a homeware brand inspired by family legacy. As the daughters of a botanical artist and a stone fabricator, my sister Riki and I grew up with a deep appreciation for quality materials and heritage crafts. We collect historically significant pieces from small dealers worldwide and partner with master artisans in the United States, repurposing vintage to meet contemporary needs while honoring the unique origins of each piece.
We take special care in selecting designs and building collections. Each product’s story begins with the origin of the antique and introduces the quality material and eco-friendly practices. It ends by celebrating the ethical collaboration between Adamo1987 and its skilled trade partners in making each product.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Conscious consumers are choosing wisely against fast interiors and wasteful production. They’re seeking brands and products that align with their values. Adamo1987 curates based on this demand. A product is selected because we believe it will become a treasured part of the home that gets passed down to the next generation.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Founded with a purpose beyond profit, Riki and I are determined to ‘support skilled trades before they become killed trades.’ Each Adamo1987 design is brought to life by an independent artisan or small business shop. This is crucial for the integrity of our brand. Our skilled trade partners bring our visions to life, and we take every opportunity to shine a spotlight on their work.
