We recently connected with GG Jeans and have shared our conversation below.
GG , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
When I first decided to start my brow business, I reached out to my family and friends first. I also posted on Facebook that I was looking for brow models and asked if I could do their brows for free so that I could start building my portfolio of before and after pictures of my work. I would say majority of them accepted my offer but I also had people who weren’t interested. I would go to different events in Atlanta and pass out my business cards and flyers to attract new business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I started off as a Makeup Artist and started doing eyebrows after freelancing for Anastasia of Beverly Hills. I quit my job and went to work at a hair salon. I didn’t have any savings so it pushed me to go to events and pass out flyers and business cards. I built my business the grass roots way! I’m happy that I come from humble beginnings because I really had to sacrifice a lot to build a successful business. I started with zero clients and to now be booked out months in advance is truly a blessing. People travel from all over the world for me to do there eyebrows. I have a huge clientele and I also have a big celebrity clientele such as Lynn Whitfield, Missy Elliot, Naturi, Jill Scott and etc. I started my Waxing Kit line in 2019 and that took my business to the next level! I’ve worked with Godaddy and did a commercial with them and I have had sold out classes and I also offer one on one classes. I’m so proud of myself for not giving up because it’s hard being a entrepreneur. GG Brows is a known brand! I’m most proud of that!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my business by cleaning up my page and only posting before and after pictures on my page and then I would post videos of me working and doing tutorials. People would repost my work and my clients would tag me in there pictures so that helped grow my following on IG plus word of mouth.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I use Shopify to sell my products online. It’s been very helpful and it’s user friendly. You can create your own theme and purchase add-ons to attract more clients to your website.
