Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Geryn Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Geryn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I worked on has been the Trapper of the Year exhibit that I just did at Trap Music Museum with my close friend, Vonte The Artist for Moneybag Yo. It was the first time they were able to put full faith and trust in me as a creative director and artist to complete the project and be creative with the concept and it was a turning point in my life to take control. I realized from the moment I got the “okay” that was my sign to go after everything I thought wasn’t attainable. I realized I made a lot of excuses for myself as to why I wouldn’t do certain projects or take certain risks and most of them stemmed from fear of rejection and fear in general. But I wasn’t getting anything by being safe and playing scared. My life is limitless and so are my dreams

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was always creative growing up, I just took it further in college with my major and after college with design school. I learned actually I didn’t even need to do. I learned a lot more outside of school in the creative industry than inside. I got my start really when I started at Trap Music Museum, I’m their in house graphic designer and actually a creative help in some projects. I just recently within the past couple years started carrying my talents further with set design, and have gotten to do some big projects. I’m very disciplined in my work and try to be as organized as possible with a schedule so that everything I want to do gets accomplished, whether that’s me displaying my work in a gallery or me working on a set or me creating digital assets.
What I provide for my clients is hopefully a fun and enlightening experience that shows them the exciting part of art and creativity and makes people question and want to know more about art and the art world. What sets me apart is that no one thinks exactly like each other, what I may come up with and think is possible someone else may not. You just have to see, My work is like an experience.
What I’m the most proud of is that I think every single creative dream is possible. I’ve accomplished more this year than I thought was possible and the year isn’t even over! There is nothing you cannot accomplish and no reason to have fear to accomplish these things.
I hope potential clients see my work and think about how diverse I am and the capability and adaptability I have and want to work with me because of this.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The things society can do to support artists and a thriving creative ecosystem most importantly is support local artists. There are so many artists people do not even know about either because they’re not hype on social media or because the same artists get used over and over. If we give each other a chance, imagine. We gotta bring others up and not compete.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
There is definitely a particular goal driving my creative journey. I have this desire I’ve had in me since I was young to be successful. My mom used to explain to me why my journey was so hard and why I had so many hardships and that mainly was because my destiny was not average. I have the most vivid images in my head or exactly how my life is going to look and they’ve only gotten more vivid since I’ve gotten older.
