We recently connected with Gerson Repreza and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gerson, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission for our business is to serve couples on one of their most important days of their lives; which is their wedding day. Our heart behind our business, why we started and why we do what we do, all started when my wife and I got married in 2019. When we got married we felt led to lead a group of young couples at our church because there wasn’t one for people our age and we wanted a place where we could grow in our marriage and not do life alone. So we created a space for couples who were dating with marriage in mind, engaged or already married. We don’t see our world celebrating getting married young. Navigating marriage at a young age in a world that says you should be in a certain place in life or have a career before you get married is very difficult but we wanted to write a different story and show that if you put Christ at the center of your marriage and surround yourself with the right people your marriage will flourish. Having a safe place where you can be yourself, have a community of like minded people, who are in a similar walk of life as you is so important. We fell in love with serving our friends in that group and seeing what God was doing in each of our lives, we told them that if they got engaged or married that we would capture photo and video of their special day. And so that’s what started to happen, the couples in our group started to get engaged, married etc and we quickly fell in love with being able to capture such important moments for them. After doing it a couple of times, we decided to start Repreza Weddings and go full time with our business. There is no greater joy for us than being able to serve couples in the best way that we can and use the talents God has given us. Our business isn’t just a business but it’s our calling and mission.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Gerson Repreza, my wife Kelly and I own a Wedding Photo and Video business named Repreza Weddings. I started videography at a young age, the passion for videography started when I took a trip to Disney with my family and my dad put me in charge of the camcorder for the whole trip. I then went on to do Drama in high school which led me to major in Film and Video Production in College. My wife Kelly grew up around filmmaking and photography since a young age as well, where she grew up doing acting and modeling. She attended an Acting and Film High School in South FL along with her older brother. When we met that was one of the things that really connected us to each other and when we got marriage we felt led to do it as a business together.
I believe what sets us apart from others is the fact that we are a husband and wife photo and video team and we work so well together. We started Repreza Weddings not just because we love the art of capturing photo + video and the creative flow of working together as a couple, but we became photographers & videographers foremost because we fell in love with people and capturing their most treasured moments in the most beautiful way we can. Our heart is to serve our couples and capture photos + a film that will mean so much to them years down the road. We’re not interested in just making clients. Our desire is friendship with our couples! During some of the most intimate and beautiful moments of their lives, we don’t want to be a stranger with a camera capturing it all. Our hope is that we can laugh with them, cry with them, pray with them, and have an altogether amazing time!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
A year after starting our business we made the bold decision to move to a different state where we were going to have to start our business from scratch. One of the main things that helped us build our reputation within the wedding industry was having the mindset of community over competition. We love connecting with other wedding photographers and videographers and getting to learn from each other.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
There are many amazing podcasts and online industry professionals who offer amazing insights for free which I wish I knew about when I first started filmmaking. One of my favorites is How to Film Weddings and Level Up Co.
