Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Germain Arroyo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Germain, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
I have failed many times, but you have to get back up and continue going. But one moment of failure that has always stuck with me was me was the moment I was dropped from a film. It all started with me booking one of my first film, and I was extremely excited. I arrived to the table read and everything was going great, but while I was reading I was also being asked if I could deepen my voice a little or maybe sound a little different. And I did, I tried to do as I was told. The next day I received a call from my manager, and he told me that unfortunately I was being dropped from the film and they decided to go a different route with the role. It was honestly very hard moment for me, it felt like I failed. But at the same time I learned that many things will happen, and the important part is how you handle it. I cried of course, but quickly told myself that I’m good enough.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, my name Germain Arroyo and I am a Queer Non Binary Latino Actor! Those are a couple of things that I am the most proud of, I love being part of the LGBTQIA+ Community. I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with a lot of incredible actors and projects. I currently have a film that’s making its Film Festival Debut called CLOCKED and I’m incredibly proud of this film. It’s a beautiful story of a young latino who’s life/career has already been planned out by his family a latino religious family who’s goal is to make there son a big time boxing champion. But they have other plans for themselves, plans that will take courage and a lot of self discovery. They are about to enter the biggest fight of there life, the fight to become a woman.
I’m incredibly grateful for any job that I book, but being able to tell Queer stories is an honor. I want to be known as a non binary actor, I want to have a voice that will be listened too and a platform where others can feel seen and safe.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As a Nonbinary person I have had to learn how to be resilient. There has been many moments where I have felt completely terrified of being in public, constantly being stared at constantly being judged just for being me. This society makes it very hard to be different, people don’t like what they don’t understand. I never thought that I would be brave enough to be myself truly, I never thought that I would be wearing heels and dresses or makeup in front of others. I was always too afraid of the world or what others might say. I allowed for others to hold me back, I allowed others to decide how I live my life. Until one day I decided to take it all back, now I walk into a room head help up high shoulders back and strut. And now the moment I feel the strongest is when I have my heels on, and the thing that makes me smile the most is makeup’. It’s who I am and who I will always be.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I had to unlearn, moving to California to become an actor was scary. But what was scarier was this feeling of having into be someone your not. For the longest time I thought I had to be this masculine man in order to work as an actor. I allowed others to make me feel like I couldn’t be myself like I couldn’t be too flamboyant or too feminine. And because of that I missed out on learning so much more about myself earlier in life. So I had to unlearn what I thought I had to be just to learn how to be myself. And because of that I have found so much more success and happiness in life. Because of that I’m not afraid to be myself this ultra feminine being! I learned to love who I am and now I’m unstoppable.
